Relic Hunting
The Tennessee Trio reunited for a morning hunt today. Yesterday, I scouted a site and Josh scouted another site. Josh’s site produced a 1842 LC, lead nipple protector, brass chain, and a flat button so we opted to hunt his site. At the least, it was an old 1800s home site.
Dman had the best find today with the Republic of Texas button. He is cleaning it tonight and, due to some corrosion in the center of the star, we’ll have to wait to see if it has the “I”, “D” for Dragoon, or nothing in the center. Our understanding from a local relic dealer is they were issued in 1837. More details to follow.
Josh had a big day as he dug two (2) half Reales. One was 1805 and the other is worn pretty smooth. He also dug his first ball button today. We had information that there was CW activity in that site but aside from the carved lead nipple protector and Doug’s Texas button possibly being dropped by a CSA Soldier, we found no evidence of a CW camp. There is a CW road nearby however. Enjoy the video and Happy Thanksgiving from the Trio.
UPDATE: Actually, I had the Best Find today. Our first Grandchild “Morgan Ashby Robertson”, a healthy 8 lb. 9 oz. baby girl was born about 10 pm. Dman says it won’t be long before she is tagging along with the Trio and digging relics-LOL.
BUTTON UPDATE: Doug cleaned the Texas button (pic later). He says it definitely reads "Republic of Texas' around the perimeter with nothing in the star center. When he sends a new pic for me to post, it is definitely BANNER material.

Great video and finds Quindy. I love your granddaughter's name! Sounds like she was named in honor of some of your hunt sites. :laughing7:
Only a coincidence Richard. I doubt my son and daughter-in-law would know who Turner Ashby was but I know you do. Thanks, Quindy.

Congrats, Quindy. The Trio is tearin' it up this fall! Keep'em coming!

It says Republic? Well then I vote banner. I guess most folks dont realize it since its not something they see often, but the republic stuff tends to go for several hundred to several thousand. Not much rarer in the US.

I hope it can make banner since it was his find. He may have to post it for it to make it up top. That is one KILLER day. I must have sent the Spanish Silver fairy up there to pay you boys a visit, because DiggerGirl and I got one big fat Skunk today. :D

Congrats on some stellar finds. A Texas Republic button is something that most diggers can only dream about, and few will ever, Ever find!

Best Wishes,

Buckles

I spent five fruitless years digging for one in TX. Im not irritatated at you TN boys at all. Lol.

Thanks to everyone for looking & replying. Dman (Doug) just posted the "Republic of Texas" button after a gentle cleaning. Check it out on his post and enjoy the holiday. Thew Tennessee Trio has a lot to be thankful for and I'm sure you do too. HH, Quindy.

Nice finds and thanks for the video! Make sure your buddy stops going to town rubbing silver coins. That's a good way to put permanent scratches in it. The viewer understands if we don't get a date etc then and there. We want to be sure the coin remains in the best condition possible.

Thanks JB!! They are fun to dig.
T123, you are correct but it's hard to contain the excitement-LOL. Thanks for the tip.

If you haven't seen it, watch Doug just after he dug the BANNER Republic of Texas Infantry button on our video. Thanks for looking, Doug, Josh, & Quindy.

awesome hunt Quindy and crew! sweet button!
