Tenn. Trio Hunts CSA Cavalry Camp Today-Eagle "I" Button + 30 Other Relics-VIDEO

Finally, all the Tennessee Trio members could get together for a 2.5 hour relic hunt at a Gen. John Hunt Morgan 1862 CSA Cavalry camp this morning. The wind from the circulation of Hurricane Sandy was howling (as you can hear in the video) and we had a wind chill of 32 degrees.
Josh’s coat size eagle “I” Officer’s button was the best find today and that entitles him to buy our lunch the next time we can pin him down-LOL. Of course, he had to go home immediately after our hunt and get ready for work again. Morgan’s troops utilized a lot of captured Yankee goods so we are never surprised to dig eagle buttons in his camps.
The assorted bullets that we recovered today were round balls, a 50 cal. Smith Carbine, .577 cal. Enfields, and .58 cal. 3 ringers. Two of Josh’s Enfields had the usual “57” molded into the base and were shipped from England for the Model 1857 Enfield rifle. We were not sure that the base mark was a “57” in the third Enfield bullet cavity and Josh will let me know if it is different.
Doug was happy that Josh could hunt with us today so he could sit in the back seat of the truck and Josh had to open farm gates-LOL. Both Doug and Josh dug more relics than I did today because I spent way too much time walking to their holes with the camera. The job as cameraman cuts into my digging time. Anybody want to be a cameraman? HH from the Trio and we are glad that Ty, Rob, Breezie, Floyd, Shirley, and all our other east coast relic hunting friends survived the storm.

Very good guys! Enjoyed it. Where is D-Man's tie? Tennessee digger

Nice to see the 'ole Relic Rag serving it's intended purpose.

I like the color of that rag. Great video the wind has sure been kicking. So is this the new site you all have been looking for? Not bad for a couple of hours especially when you team up. Nice to see a marked enfield that is always a plus. Good job fellows.

Awesome Relics! Way to go! I live close by and would love to be the cameraman, just to take part in watching history come back to life! I'm also good at opening and closing farm gates... :laughing7: Thanks for sharing!

Heh Quindy, Looks like you guys had a great hunt. Nice recoveries....love the vids too! Bill

Very nice. Keep digging them up. HH

Well be sure to assure Doug that there's no gates to open or close down here. Just cane as far as the eye can see and not a fence anywhere. :)

Also, don't worry about the filming taking up too much time. We are only gonna call you over to film if it's a Pelican button or Spanish silver, so that will mean you'll actually get time to swing a detector two or three times before you have to drive home.

Seriously, great finds for the Trio. Congrats on recovering some excellent pieces of Civil War history!

Awesome hunt Quindy. Nice button. Before long it is going to be hard to find buttons as they are deteriorating being in the ground so long.

Thanks Matt, Steve, Richard (TnMts.), JB, FS, & SDave.

Regarding Dman & his tie Donnie, formality gave way to warmth yesterday-LOL.

Got your pm Bill and will send your email to him. Q.

Randy, you are right about the buttons. Most will be powder in 10 years. Q.

BB, we are looking forward to it. Dman may be the first to wear a tuxedo while hunting a canefield-LOL. Q.

Thanks to all who looked. We have just begun to hunt!!! HH from the Trio.

Enjoyed your video and always enjoyed your posts. When I first started digging CW relics in Tennessee, in 1972 (during short vacations)--mostly I dug around Murfreesboro and later, at Milton and Bell Buckle. I acquired an out of print history book that I outlined and received permission from the authors widow to reference sources from it. This book gave many general locations of camps--including that of Morgan. I gathered a list of these, but somewhere between then and now, I became so busy digging Florida Seminole War relics that I did not return and seek these locations. I am pleased that you have been successful in locating some of these historic places and preserving relics therefrom. Thanks for sharing.

another spectacular hunt guys!

Thanks SD & Dave. We hope to get together next week & dig a few more relics. HH, Quindy.

Great hunting and video !!
Congrats on the finds and thanks for showing !!
Best wishes, Herbie :hello:
