Got this thing a few years ago at a flea market. It looked great until I put 99.9% UV tint on my windows. this tint saves your hardwood and furniture, but KILLS all your plants.

I've done a bit of research and have'nt seen a name for this 6-8 gallon bottle or container. I got the cork elsewhere. Anyone?

I used to make wine in a huge bottle... 10 gallon deal.

It may have only ever been a decorative piece...

The opening is key here. I thought demijohn too but the opening is to big for those(i think). I can fit my arm in it no problem.

Carboy or demijohn.

Yes... thats the name! :)

But the opening is so huge... ???
I think you are correct in your assumption of it being a "decorative piece". I'm just guessing though,SWR is the authority on glass around here.

If you look close-There's a lip where a cap was attached. Steaking bubbles and pops throughout.

Don't know what's in it now but it once contained an "Air Fern". Supposidly the fern grew without any nutrients except air! Monty

Just saw a program "Bizzare Foods" and the host was in Viet Nam. One of the restaurants had many containers such as the one you posted and they had glass lids. The containers were filled with snakes and they appeared to be pickled or in the process of being so.
