Tesoro 4" coil???

Re: Tesoro 4" coil???

I have not used this coil on a Lobo for small gold. However the smaller the coil the more sensitive it is to tiny things. It also allows you to hunt trashy sites easier since it can move around brush and rocks to "cherry pick" the good targets. If there is only ONE coil you should get besides the stock coil it is a Super Sniper.

Re: Tesoro 4" coil???

I was at a week long hunt with a bunch of people by some cellar holes. I saw people use the coil while being close to the cellar hole and also while people were sifting. You keep digging and sifting and when you get down aways, you use the coil on the ground to see if you have to continue sifting or your able to cherry pick.

Re: Tesoro 4" coil???

I was thinking of with a Deleon, I already have a gold master but would like to buy a coin machine. I guess the small coil would be gool in a cellar, just wonder about depth.

Tesoro does not make a four inch coil for the Lobo ST. They used to make a 4x6 for the Lobo, cib, Vaq. and Tejon but no more. I used to use a Tesoro Big metal box ElDorado with a 4" coil for nugget hunting before the mfg's came out with dedicated gold detectors, found lots of nugget with it.

Re: Tesoro 4" coil???

I have a 4" sniper coil for the 10-12mhz Tesoro machines. It works well enough for close-in conditions but drives me crazy if I step just a bit further away from obstructions into any open area.
It's just too small for open areas !
I think I'd rather have the 5.75 concentric as a more balanced coil that would be better for both.

Somewhere around the BB is a picture of a cut down Sabre with a 4" coil on it that was used under porches and inside old buildings... I might do that with it, one day.

Re: Tesoro 4" coil???

The 4" would be a good idea, but to be tuned to the detector both the coil and detector will have to be sent to Tesoro for matching. Tesoro only tunes there detectors to the stock coil leaving the others shall we say wanting, the others will work but will not do there best work without a trip to the factory.

Well said..........Many don't know this and wonder why it isn't working as expected.

Re: Tesoro 4" coil???

So is the detector tuned to the coil or the coil to the detector? Because if the detector is tuned to the coil it makes no sense to have multiple coils.

Re: Tesoro 4" coil???

Only Tesoro detectors with pre set ground balance neeed to be sent in,

Re: Tesoro 4" coil???

Seems to me the coil matching circuit within the detector's circuit box would have to be adjusted if a coil did not perform well.

Most of us should recall the tale of Gerhard Fisher telling the FCC to buzz off when they wanted to license each and every metal detector he built as an RF transmission device...

The amount of power we are allowed to use here in the US is very small in the scheme of things...
I wouldn't send one in for factory tune-up unless it actually was noticeable that performance was poor in testing.

If you can discover a ladies fine wire yellow metal ring at 4 or 5 inches, and even 6 inches depth in a test, using a 4" sniper coil, I'd say you are doing quite well. Size of a coil does affect it's depth capability.

Good luck
