I'm trying to do a closeup with my high dollar camera, but I don't know how to shut the flash off. After doing a lot of playing around and some work with the picture in the computer, here is what I ended up with.
coin-1.webp
coin-2.webp

I'm not real happy with it, and I've lost the book, but there is information on the net, so will be doing some study time. The camera is a Nikon D5100 if anyone has info on how to turn off the flash.

Usually under the flash options there should be a setting that will allow you to turn off the flash.

suspend the coin item off the surface background.. this tend to wash out or make the coin reflect brighter especially if the back ground is dark as you have it.. the camera flashes because all it see is the dark back ground. Locate a neutral back ground or light box suspend the coin slightly and then try your shot again.. often it takes several attempts to find the right setting for any said object.
