This was a comment I said yesterday on another post "That is awesome!!! I spent 5 hours at a park today and got one wheat. I was saying to myself the only way I'm going to "look" for gold rings is in a jewelry parking lot I'd have a better chance it seems like. I've found 4 gold rings in 3 years and it was all by luck except 1."

Well I'm glad I'm stubborn or obsessive whatever which way you want to look at it I went out again and I did it. 14kp gold ring FINALLY!!!! It's been awhile. I will admit though old going tomorrow my thing old silver coins are better, but I guess that gold coin would be at the top. I do obcess for a men's college/high school ring. Well one day. Oh and it was raining. I must be nuts smh

Congrats to you sir. Way to hang in there and score!

Being head strong can pay off. Congrats

Some fishermen only want to catch pan fish or largemouth bass, others like an increased challenge of catching small mouth bass or trout, then there are the people that have done all that and only feel challenged trying to catch a trophy musky...

Congatulations on a fine trophy musky.... a fish of 10,000 casts for the average fisherman.

Excellent find on the gold ring. WTG....

IMO I do enjoy popping a plug and seeing a high school ring there BUT my conscious takes over and before I can relish the find, I am already working on returning what "personally" is not mine in my mind. Lots on info typically on a class ring.
The other silver and gold rings I have found (And I really only have found about a dozen of them) that have no personal markings on them I enjoy more because at least most are never reported lost and I consider them my bounty.
Great find, and I agree, Gold is great and probably my no. 1 wish as I flip a plug.
But I guess when I think about it, isn't it that few seconds of "What can it be" that keeps us swinging?

I see it like this if I find a class ring I'm gonna return it to, but not before I have it my ring case, so I can look at it for awhile. They'll be just as happy when I do. If it's a old one that different I guess.

Nice snag on that ring! I think we all have to be stubborn, and nuts, to get the good stuff in this hobby.

I am overqualified on BOTH accounts.>:(:tongue3:

I have been hunting a spot that is absolutely beautiful along a river with huge oak trees and wildlife all around me. The flat "picnic" area with shelters is littered with pull tabs something terrible. I have avoided this area for just that reason. I have found 13 wheat pennies in the last two hunts working the "fringe" area close to this spot but, think I need to put on my "big boy" pants and go straight through this heavily concentrated area with BUKU targets mostly pull tabs. I would almost be willing to bet one of my few gold rings there is another one in there to be had for those willing to dig those darned pull tabs.:BangHead:

Congrats on your gold and for encouraging/inspiring others to do the hard work necessary to find it.:icon_salut:

You differently need drive I'll tell you that. You know being born in New Orleans was bad for my health, the city that sobriety he forgot about. I had a high paying job, addicted to money, Porsches, high stakes gambling and everything that comes with it if you know what I mean? I've been sober and clean with no gambling for 14 years. I lived a very fast life I have a very addictive personality and never had time for a real hobby in my life. I picked up my first metal detector 3 years ago and never looked back. And I must say it's the closest thing to the high I got from gambling without losing money. The beeps are like slot machines and any old is jackpots. I never clean my coins in the ffield I'll wait till I get home so I can scratch off the dirt with a toothpick and it feels like I'm playing scratch offs. Lol I MD just like I did my gambling, very very often. My life is changed, material things doesn't matter anymore and this hobby has added much happiness in my life. I no longer work 80 hours a week I work 20 hours a week ( After Katrina I started living simple and more humble) The rest I metal detect....practically every day. God, Family (Wife is my best find) and Metal Detecting. Life is good

Thank you for your honesty Truth1253 and your username is very befitting of you too! :icon_thumright: This is exactly why I want to get my son started in this also! I still love playing Texas Hold 'em but most at the tables actually think that I am a professional ringer after I take all of their money Lol! :laughing7: I'm not of course. I'm just a woman who plays very well, who's not too bad at counting cards, plays close and honest, don't drink (although I must confess that I will have them put a lime in my soda and seltzer water so nobody knows it) and knows a bluffer in a heartbeat. I only play tables against other players that use just one deck of cards and never against dealers. Maybe they should pay me to play because I always go after the bluffers and annoying players, and most at the tables applaud me for it. I also never waste my money or time playing anything where the odds are stacked against me from the get go. 8-)

I love the game so much, but unfortunately or fortunately I'm stuck watching it on TV which I do all the time. I can watch it for hours LOL

I hear you, and I can relate in many ways.

It's great to get that metal detecting "high" while being in the great outdoors, not wasting money, getting healthy excercise, learning about history. All guilt free and no hangover!

I could detect all day everyday, but that wouldn't be healthy either. Gotta find that balance in life where everybody wins.

We will hunt until we're old
For that elusive band of gold

Hey I made a rhyme :)

Well said, always had that problem with balance. Thank you for reminding me of that. I get stuck in mind which can keep going, now my body is pleading for a break. Thanks again

Wow! Now this is a "sobering" post. No pun intended. Been addicted to anything that alters my present mood just for the change factor since my teens. Became a drunken pot head in the 70'-80's and spent all my time in dirty rock and roll clubs. Picked up a pair of DWI's back in the day. Eventually God intervened around 1989. Turned my world upside down and got me headed for the narrow road. Managed 17 years sobriety before I had a marriage crash & burn which was my "excuse" to fall back into the booze. Been trying to reestablish my connection with God for several years but, not before getting another DUI which I am going through now. I got that on election night 2016. Haven't had a drink since that event.

Everything happens for a reason and is designed for a specific purpose according to a verse I read in the bible. Romans 8:28. Thanks for your testimony my friend. Perhaps my presence as well as many others here on T-net is no random occurrence. God bless you and yours. Well done and continued success in your walk down the road less traveled and narrow it is. Peace.

Your story is very similar to mine. I've been there, I relapsed after 7 years clean/sober, "the 7 year itch". After 29 days I was worse off than I've ever been this disease remembers and it is swift the second time around. My main problem is half of my brain produces pudding and the other half buys it. Smh. I just went to my wife's nephews funeral, at 41 he OD on OxyContin and Xanax. Very sad but we saw it coming. RIP Toby
