This was a comment I said yesterday on another post "That is awesome!!! I spent 5 hours at a park today and got one wheat. I was saying to myself the only way I'm going to "look" for gold rings is in a jewelry parking lot I'd have a better chance it seems like. I've found 4 gold rings in 3 years and it was all by luck except 1."

Well I'm glad I'm stubborn or obsessive whatever which way you want to look at it I went out again and I did it. 14kp gold ring FINALLY!!!! It's been awhile. I will admit though old going tomorrow my thing old silver coins are better, but I guess that gold coin would be at the top. I do obcess for a men's college/high school ring. Well one day. It is always good to remember that we haven't failed until we quit trying. My addiction was tobacco. Sounds pretty tame but I was a ravenous nicotine addict. Couldn't get enough of it. My Big brother went down your road. It got him. If God helps, Get there. It really is easy when you understand that you can't do anything that will not be forgiven. Just GO. Walk in and Say HEY Im new. Thats IT. My family has a few Pastors in it. Was never really my thing but I recognize what it does for people. GO. DO. You will be instantly accepted and will be on the narrow again. I Promise.

Wow! Now this is a "sobering" post. No pun intended. Been addicted to anything that alters my present mood just for the change factor since my teens. Became a drunken pot head in the 70'-80's and spent all my time in dirty rock and roll clubs. Picked up a pair of DWI's back in the day. Eventually God intervened around 1989. Turned my world upside down and got me headed for the narrow road. Managed 17 years sobriety before I had a marriage crash & burn which was my "excuse" to fall back into the booze. Been trying to reestablish my connection with God for several years but, not before getting another DUI which I am going through now. I got that on election night 2016. Haven't had a drink since that event.
.

I wish you success on your path, sincerely.

You differently need drive I'll tell you that. You know being born in New Orleans was bad for my health, the city that sobriety he forgot about. I had a high paying job, addicted to money, Porsches, high stakes gambling and everything that comes with it if you know what I mean? I've been sober and clean with no gambling for 14 years. I lived a very fast life I have a very addictive personality and never had time for a real hobby in my life. I picked up my first metal detector 3 years ago and never looked back. And I must say it's the closest thing to the high I got from gambling without losing money. The beeps are like slot machines and any old is jackpots. I never clean my coins in the ffield I'll wait till I get home so I can scratch off the dirt with a toothpick and it feels like I'm playing scratch offs. Lol I MD just like I did my gambling, very very often. My life is changed, material things doesn't matter anymore and this hobby has added much happiness in my life. I no longer work 80 hours a week I work 20 hours a week ( After Katrina I started living simple and more humble) The rest I metal detect....practically every day. God, Family (Wife is my best find) and Metal Detecting. Life is good

First off, congratulations on your sobriety and no gambling. Second, this is well said. What truly satisfies in life?

Gold is a mood changer.
Congrats on your recovery & congrats on your recovery.

If metal detecting/treasure hunting can help bring a person out of a bad addiction, well that right there is THE ultimate treasure. The gold and silver, they are just little tiny bonuses or "pats on the back" for sticking with it. Thanks for being so transparent. Congratulations on a life free from the shackles of alcohol, drugs and gambling. And congratulations on a fine plumb gold ring!

It's all in the beep! Thank you for your kind words.

I did not join T-net to share all my grizzly life's misadventures. However since I have noticed a few other members having endured some of the same self inflicted wounds as I have I thought if it helps even one other to get on track I'll share.

Thanks for the sentiments. Going through a great deal of stress and unsure of the outcome still. Along with being guardian over my brother who has had a stroke and managing his messy situation along with my aging stepfather it is quite a load. Thanks again DT sir.

Hey we're all on this roller coaster ride we call life. All I can say in a idle mind is a very dangerous place for me and when my anxiety is starting to get the best of me metal detecting is the best medication I can ask for. You sir sound like you have a lot on your shoulders and I commend you for stepping up whether it was brought on or put on you're a good man and you will be rewarded in the long run. God Bless you and yours Kurios1 [emoji1317]
