A smooth edge but quite wornHey Murf that's a cool coin... nice find. Is it reeded or smooth? The two letters that stand out look like an I and D. In person can make anything else out? The hole says it was of significant value to someone. I don't think its what Blaze had suggested... the I and the D don't fit anywhere on the 1766 example.

I will say that you got it.1766 George III Irish issue Hibernia half penny.. The pickled pepper on the front of his face gave it away! ~Blaze~
Possibly because of the wear it's lost 1.2mm over time.It is 27mm
...I don't think so, but I could be wrong ... compare the lettering toward the edges of the two coins ...not a match, as the 1/2P has the word REX, (LATIN: "king"), different from the same spot on Murf's coin.1766 George III Irish issue Hibernia half penny
Thanks Sarge. Another close matchRepublic or Vernon (Vermount).....?

Your looking at the wrong side ( REX doesn't become a HIB ) the H is visible, but the give away is the I vs E....I don't think so, but I could be wrong ... compare the lettering toward the edges of the two coins ...not a match, as the 1/2P has the word REX, (LATIN: "king"), different from the same spot on Murf's coin.
...It seems to me, also, that the bust is facing left, & seems to have some type of crown, or hat, over the hair ...
...also, I believe I see the 1st 3 date digits, 1 / 7 / 4 (just the left, tip of the 4)... I could be wrong here, as the coin's surface makes for difficult reading ...
...I'm searching for a monarch, European, ruling in the 1740s ... then find a photo list of copper coinage ... the winner of this search gets a cookie...
