Relic Hunting
Been so busy it seems that there's no time to post up anything that I do dig. I do get out for a little here and there, and there's always something coming out of the dirt to keep the passion running. I treated myself to a Deus in April, and have gotten out a few times, a different type of machine from the Minelabs but it's interesting to go over the same sites again.

This why I would like to thank Scrappy and his reference to changing the setting from 18 to 8khz. http://www.treasurenet.com/forums/t...-permission-handful-coins-militaria-more.html

So being new to the Deus and will jump down any rabbit hole of information I went out to a bottom feeding site. One where a person has picked it so many times that a piece of brass is a good. So I've been there once or twice with the Deus and picked out a few buttons and bits of brass. Today the site came alive again changing it to 8khz, so either I suck at cleaning place out or this setting works.

Nothing too great except for the killer button, the other ones aren't too shabby either having the shanks still intact. So here is the finds from the picked over 1 acre site, and about a 1 1/2 of time. Fresh out of the dirt as I haven't had time to clean up anything, the dirt was just wiped off.

1812sh RN Military Button, J Manns is the maker. One has to love the look of a find when it first shows its self from the soils, one just has that feeling it's going to be a keeper.

So the nonferrous finds were pretty plentiful, oval umbrella slide, four buttons, part of a pewter spoon handle, little clasp, brass chain master link, newer bullet, toe tap two of the buttons were laying on top, but just under a cob of corn and stalks. It was interesting thing to note that once I picked them up there was iron directly under them. So they might have been masked from previous trips.

The iron-well who doesn't dig iron? Seemed to run into the knife blade section of the site, all different. Complete Oxen shoe, and one hex headed knob which is a first and no idea what it's from.
Thanks for looking, and don't be afraid to try a new setting.

Yes I've had the deus for quite a while
But scrappy turned me on to the lower frequency
Too. My hunted out sites still have a thing or two left there
It seems. Hh gl.

Awesome button! Definitely will try a lower frequency on Fast.

The Deus is awesome, but Scrappy is awesomer! I have had the opportunity to see him hunt, and brother it's something to see.

Congrats on the button and other finds, and best of luck to you sir!

Scrappy, premium detector, awesome finds.....
TN never failed to deliver.
Awesome...... thank you.

Sweet naval button & sweeter patina!

I always seem to hunt is 12 or 18, will have to try the lower settings when I get back
Personally I stick at 12, played with 8, & makes little difference to me. Maybe get a deeper larger object, but not great on the small deep stuff.

Looks great & a button I need.

wow good buch of finds its great all the pointers and advice that we share on this site priceless

Wow, that is a smashing button! I'm going to try the 8 khz at my hunted out park and see how it goes. Congrats on the amazing dig Pepperj and the tip, Scrappy!

Nice Royal Navy, beautiful Patina.

Hey there Pepp! Nice digs buddy! I'm happy to hear the frequency suggestion worked out for you. But like Crusader suggested - what works for some doesn't work for others. I've had several friends try it and they found it's not for them, or found negligible differences. Just personal preferences I suppose.

Thank you for the reply Eastcoasthunter
I have found that one can only really get a feeling if a setting, or another detector does something better is at a well hunted site that a person has been to many times in the past.

I haven't tries 12 yet and it will give me another option maybe today when I'm in area of the site. Thanks for the reply

Thanks, It's a keeper for me.

Thanks Tom, I'm impressed with the machine and always drawn to the finds of Scrappy. It's always great to see a person that can work a machine on the soils, and be productive in their hunt.

The new machine has opened up the sites once agin, thanks for the reply.

Thanks Steve for the reply. It's one of those sites the tokens, buttons are all great because of the well drained soils.

Thanks Cru for the replies, it's always to read the responses on what works for people that run the machines. Missing the small items isn't good, getting deeper is at certain sites. Oh I miss the well worked soils of England and have to contend to the no till soils here.
It was a first for me on the button, then again if they all come out this way I would be tickled.

Thanks, It's a keeper for sure. Yes this site is great when the experienced share the knowledge with all to learn.

Thanks Jersey Digger! Little work has to be done for cleaning this one up.

Nice Royal Navy, beautiful Patina.

Thanks bonepicker, I wish more would come up like this e.g.: My military pewters could take a lesson or two from this button on beauty.

Thanks Scrappy for teaching a newbie a new trick with this machine. Even after running a coil over the soils for over 4 decades I'm still stupid as stupid gets on the inner workings of machines.
It's guys like you that share what has worked for them that makes me listen up, as the finds posted don't lie on what's actually working.
Having something like a different setting work or not might be connected on the way a person hunts. I have noticed that the faster the coil is been swung the less I dig. :)
Keep digging and sharing, your post ups of the hunts & finds always seem to inspire the inner urge in me to get out digging.

Congratulations on the relic hunt! :occasion14:

that is a great looking button!

just an observation on your settings:
I think it's great to have a network of Deus users that aren't afraid to use all the potential of that unit, bouncing ideas off one another lets you all in on all the facets of your machine.
I think the same could be said about all brands.
Having said that, a Deus or Minelab probably would have found all or more targets given the same exposure to the site, can't confirm that, but just my thought.
My philosophy to any site; first you get a bunch of the easy targets and a couple of the hard ones, next you more of the easy ones and more hard ones, then you get the last of the easy ones and a few more hard ones, after that, it's only few easy ones and as few hard ones, then it's all hard or really hard to get a keeper out.
The positive thoughts of a new machine keeps that passion flowing, best wishes with your Deus!
