Thanksgiving Disasters

Several years ago , Thanksgiving morn , my girlfriend was getting the turkey ready to cook . I told her I was going to take the canoe out on the pond out front and collect some of the pretty red Berrie branches to add to the flower arraignment center piece for the table . I brought my fishing pole .

I collected a nice batch of stick berries , then I started catching fish !
Meanwhile back at the house , she put the turkey in the oven , but forgot to take the wet towel she had draped over the bird . It was on fire , the house was filling with smoke . She pulled the flaming towel off the bird and threw it outdoors . She went back in to clean the turkey up and noticed the lawn was now on fire ! I had put the garden hoses away for the season , so she had to put it out with buckets of water . Meanwhile I was still fishing . My fun was interupted by the sound of our car horn - it sounded like SOS .
I paddled home . " Honey how did the lawn get burned ?" I cannot repeat what she said .
About an hour later we realized that the oven fuse had blown , and the turkey wasn't even cooking!
it was one of those Screw-in glass fuses , kinda hard to find when all the Hardware stores are closed . Luckily I found one in an old pumphouse out back .

My Dad always had the knack of saying the right thing. One Thanksgiving we explained to my younger nephew the custom of breaking the turkey wishbone.

Eager to have his wish come true, little David was bitterly disappointed when he saw that he held the small end of the bone, while his grandfather had the larger part.

"That's all right, my boy," said his smiling grandfather. "My wish was that you would get yours."

All the pies were cooling on the countertop. 4 pumpkin and a couple apple. Someone left the back door open and our yellow lab decided to come in and check things out. He kinda tore up one of the apple pies but must have decided he liked pumpkin better; he ate them ALL!!!! I was thinking he might get sick but he made it oaky. It's an enduring story told at every Thanksgiving.
btw, if you blow one of those screw-in fuses, you can remove it, insert a penny and screw it back in again and, walla, it works again. Just gotta hope there isn't a short or something else seriously wrong with the wiring or you may cause a fire.
