That's Why They Call Me BUCKLES
Hello All,
Got out with HB today to do a little swingin. We had gotten permission to hunt a Very large farm--tobacco, soybean, and cow pasture. Since then I'd done some research, and found a few spots I'd like to try. There was a nice spring coming out of the side of the hill, so we got out in the pasture near it hoping for an old goodie or two. It was quite a distance in--through Five gates (which we closed behind us
), then another distance on foot. But it didn't matter. The weather was lovely.

As we were walking, I saw off in the distance--Daffodils!

We headed to that spot, turned on our machines, and heard the beautiful sound of iron.
HB got a few pewter spoon handles, so we knew that the site had some age on it. Then he dug a Huge, complete barrel tap. I picked up a few interesting bits, including a chinese coin and a toe tap. HB also dug a nice strap end from a mid-1800s leather valise. 8)
Then I got a rather odd mixed signal. I pinpointed and dug it out, seeing a lead item flop out of the hole. I bent halfway over to look at it, and saw that it was OVAL shaped!
I shouted for HB to come over, grabbed my camera, and took a photo or two:

I was Praying that it had a brass skin on the other side. I took a deep breath and turned it over:

Here is a photo of today's finds on the truck tailgate:

And here are my finds, after cleaning. U.S. Box Plate in the center. 8)

Now that my plate for 2010 is out of the way... It's time to celebrate. Beer Me!

Best Wishes and Happy Hunting,
Buckleboy
