Re: The bits Crusader didn't want!

Hi Shaun... Well darn good finds, especially compared to what you had on the first day when we were together!
The coin weight is one of the better, great condition for sure. You did good to let Cru find all he did, smart kid you!
Now you are pretty even with him, so who knows what happens next... The nipple buttons, we call them here the tit-
ty buttons, that a way better description. And you made out with two of them (BTW they come in pairs). I like the acorn mount very much too. Good finds!

Re: The bits Crusader didn't want!

I like the leaf item you found. Any age/era on that?

Re: The bits Crusader didn't want!

Shaun, A very good day for sure. What is it about those coin weights you found 2, Silver Searcher said he hasn't found one in 10 years, yet I find one here in the US. CRU said mine was an amazing find for the states. I guess my question is are they that rare :dontknow: Good luck on the hunt, Broken Knee

Yes a coin weight found in the USA is rare for sure. We find them quite often here in Holland and sometimes in England, but we usually search fields in England, and they are usually not there. Here in Holland if you find ground by say a harbor workplace back in the 15th to 17th centuries you find a lot. Also in the center of towns. Those people living there or working there just threw them away in the ground or water after the gold coins disappeared.

Coin weights were for gold coins, although I have a few for heavy silver coins too. So who had them? Well not the normal people, but traders, bankers and such. So they neede to check the coins using the coin weights. So on fields here very rare, in town centers and such, not common but not rare either.

Thanks Tank! The coin weights were used to make sure that the gold coins they represented were up to standard/weight....I think :icon_thumleft:
