Don and I got out and hammered yet another Privy from the 1870's. It really turned out to be a great pit. Started out with the usual screw cap stuff that was just under the surface. >:( But that to us means nothing really. It's when you get down about 2 feet and start to see the tops of Blob Beers that gets your heart pumping ;D.

Don snagged one beer and then it was my turn. I got grabbed one and then he got the next  Three in all so far but we were still pretty shallow. So we kept at it for another 3 feet or so. :icon_pirat: Still searching for more treasure we found some older hinge mold pieces and some really thin medicines. Which tells me its on the brink of pontiled bottles. Don would prove that right by pulling up the 8 paneled John's Cough Syrup. Although cracked a bit it was still a great find. Can't seem to find this particular bottle in any of the Pontil books we looked at. Might be a rare or unknown one. So broken or not it's still a great keeper. There was a really old broken fruit jar and many other pieces of plates and pottery. It ended up being one of the oldest pits we have done. I liked the amber blob beer that I found as I collapsed the walls on the way out. The insitu picture tells it all

Then we dug a small trash pit and got the Doct Marshalls Snuff and the Hemingray Insulator from 1893. It was a blast of course and the heat was really intense :icon_sunny: Hopefully we will get out soon and grab up some more history. Goodluck and be safe out(down) there. jgas

Cool finds. I remember as a kid, finding piles of these things in the woods back in the mtns of NC.

Very nice glass, I enjoy your posts. There is nothing like an early privy!

The I.L. St. Johns is a a Tiffin,Ohio medicine bottle. There are pontilled variants but that one dates just a little later. Nice finds.

wow awesome glass you guys found. That sure does look like fun.

:icon_thumleft:

Thanks for the replies guys. The blob beers are the finds here. They are worth a few $$$. The St.Johns bottle is pontiled but its broke on the opposite side. >:( I hate it when that happens. We find crocks pretty regularly but most are cracked. It was a blast and I hope to get back out soon  Thanks again for all the replies! jgas

Nice glass and you aren't as deep as usual yet...
love the beer bottle with telephone # :laughing7: ( "I'd like a delivery to the outhouse at.....")
I imagine we'll see you neck deep soon

Great digs once again!

Another great story from the pits jgas :icon_thumleft:

Never did make it over to your neck of the woods this past Sunday. We figured with the heat being on, we'd go somewhere with a mix of shade. If the weather was more cooperative, we'd have loved to dig in the Bend.
