Finally got around to cleaning up a medal I dug and thought I would share a story behind it.

In 1997 I was assigned 6 week temporary orders at Headquarters Marine Corps in Virginia. Some members of the Pelican metal detecting club out of Baton Rouge gave me the name and number of a gent (Tom) who was with the Northern Virginia Relic Hunters club. I contacted him and he was gracious enough to meet up with me along with his digging partner (Chuck) on the weekend. They took me to a lot of sites detecting over that six week period and also showed me their massive collection of relics. One weekend they took me over to meet Nancy and Steve with NSTCW magazine since I was a subscriber and it was like a bucket list check off meeting them. Very enjoyable meeting and not surprising, very gracious. We were there for about an hour and a lot of the discussion was about soldier ID tags. Later Tom and Chuck took me out to a farm they had permission on and we had dug a few bullets. I rang up a good signal and popped up a cruddy green disc. I sat there for a few minutes trying to clean it off to read what was on it. I held up the disc and Tom and Chuck came over to see what I had dug. Their immediate reaction was no way was it the very thing we had been discussing earlier in the day! After careful cleaning the first thing we saw was a stove and we all laughed. Turned out that I had dug a 1904 St. Louis World's Fair Majestic Range Good Luck Token. It was crudded up really bad from environment, Virginia soil, and farm fertilizer.

It now serves as a memory of those wonderful times they shared touring me around Virginia, taking me to their spots and introducing me to their fellow diggers who themselves had incredible collections. In retrospect it really was a good luck token.
