Detector(s) used
Whites DFX (with 4x6 shooter DD coil and 12" spider coil), Minelab Rocco 2700. (E-Trac)
Primary Interest:
All Treasure Hunting
Well, Kirk and Zoyboy got me all fired up with their 2007 compilation posts. I figured I would follow suit and make a post of my own of my 2007 finds. My detector has been put away for a while now. The last few "potential" detecting days for me were rained out and now that the snow is falling, my season is definitely done.
I got a late start this season (my second...if you dont count the few years I used a detector in the mid 80's as a teenager) I had major reconstructive surgery on my left foot and ankle in January. 8 weeks in a cast. Another 8 weeks in physical therapy. I didn't even pick the detector up until early June. Spent the first couple of months schoolyard and park hunting. Found a few modern silvers and some jewelry but nothing really exceptional or unique.
At the beginning of August I got the opportunity to hunt a large colonial era site that consisted of a few farm fields. It ended up being pretty productive and due to some of the finds I made there, I am now hopelessly addicted to metal detecting ;D :D I dug numerous relics and several large coppers at this site. I can only hope that the plow will bring a few more relics to the surface next year.
So, without any further ado, here is the list of my 2007 finds followed by a few pictures.
58 Wheat pennies
2 silver Roosevelt dimes
2 Mercury dimes
2 Barber dimes
1 silver washington quarter
2 Buffalo nickels
3 silver Wartime nickels
about 1500 modern clad coins

Those were my modern coin finds. They slowed way down once I started finding things at the colonial site. Here are the coin totals from that site..

9 large coppers....
1828 Matron Head LC
1847 Braided Hair LC
1846 Braided Hair LC (tall date variety)
2 unidentifiable coppers
1 unidentifiable cut copper
King George II (no date)
1786 Vermont copper
1787 Vermont copper
About 60 assorted buttons
Numerous relics
1876 CC Seated Liberty dime.
1864 two center......pretty good condition
4 Indian Heads...1907, 1868, 1864, and a no date

In conclusion I would like to thank everyone for being so supportive and for helping to ID those things I was clueless about. I've picked up alot of tips and hints this year and all have helped me improve in some way. I didn't include all of the modern silver coins in the picture. Everyone knows what roosies, buffalos and wheaties look like right?

GOOD LUCK TO EVERYONE IN 2008!!!!

Thanks Dan. I was fortunate enough to have a really good colonial site to search this year. About 99% of that old stuff came from that one site. Most of the more modern silvers came from schoolyards and parks......but they pale in comparison to your 642,567,982 silvers found this year ;D At least that what it seems like sometimes. Congrats to you too Dan on a great 2007 and best of luck in 2008.

Have you ever looked up the value of an Ulster Guard button?
Yes I have plehbah and I was surprised at what I found. Here is a good example...check this link http://picketpost.com/usstates.htm Click on the New York link. The one I found isn't perfect but its got to be worth a little bit. Thanks for the response.

Yes it is Larsmed. I found that one in a private yard. Chinese cash coin.....dates back to the 1700's although exactly how old and to what dynasty escapes me at the moment. I posted it on the coins section (or was it the what is it section) earlier this year and it was ID'ed with great accuracy. The knowledge on this forum never ceases to amaze me. Thanks for the response. We'll see if there's anything left to find at that colonial site next year. I hope the plow brings some new relics to the surface.

Yes,

That is a really nice yr. That 1786 is in really nice shape. Lots of nice flat buttons to.

Congrats on a nice season

Yo, Rob, you frickin rock, man! You are going to have a kick a$$ year next year. I can just see it right now: 20 coppas, 3 Spanish wilvers, and tons of butt-ins to boot.
