The gold humans have access to on earth came from space

Hi All,

Here is another interesting article I came across that talks about research that proves the gold humans have access to in the Earth's crust came from gold contained in meteorites that impacted the planet after the planetary crust had already formed and solidified. It also refers to the fact that most of the gold in the Earth was pulled to the core by gravity while the earth was still in a molten state.

This also makes me wonder what formed the gold in the meteorites. It would have had to have been created in stars that later went supernova. There is still a lot we don't know.

Are their other heavy metals that didn't get sucked into the core that are found on the crust that didn't come from space the ?

meh....that would sure take a lot of meteorites. More like the gold was in all the debris that got sucked together into this rock when that happened. Gravitational pull just isn't enough to pull the gold impacted on the surface through the molten blob.
Besides how would they have evidence of impact on a molten blob.

Be wary of tests made by the first lab to make such tests...that come up with a whole new "theory" for everything.

The regiones that are mine for heavy metals have gone through so much, subduction, induction and volcanism that the whole top layer inner layer concept just doesn't stick to the wall for me.

Some insight sure...the answer? Not so much.

Everything, including us is star stuff. We are made from star dust. Cool huh. Exploding stars are large laboratories that create elements.
Isn't it amazing to make what seems a tiny change in structure and have a completely different element.
Different in every way. It's no wonder the alchemists thought they might cook their way to gold.

Asteroids might have brought stuff like iron and nickel. When analyzing a meteorite, they are usually just iron and nickel with trace elements of other stuff. Next is cobalt at less that 1% on average. Seems unlikely they carry much baggage.
I think when a star blows up and creates elements because of the power they have, fills space with star dust. Like Tinkerbell. Spraying everywhere.

if you really look at it, we have been able to create artificial diamonds but not artificial gold. The amount of energy released by a star thousands if not hundred of thousands of miles in diameter is mind boggling. Once we get past the whole "humans are the problem" thing and turn our attention elsewhere, we'll begin to understand a lot.

All of the heavier elements are formed by fusion processes in stars

exactly if it's made of a bunch of stuff that globed together...it's a big stretch to say that was devoid of minerels until stuff smacked into it later.

What is crust now wasn't then and what was outside then is inside now and it has less to do with gravity than the other forces that take place.

We are getting to a point where labs like to write new stories because studying proven theory is boring and gets less grant money. There may be some gold near the surface from impacts. But, the majority was here from the get go and has been going through several different cycles.

Secondary enrichment has lead to more concentration near the surface than any meteor event. maybe those labcoats need to hit the field more often trade their face shields for some sunglasses and get some fresh air.

That isn't what the article says at all. It says that the gold that was a part of the original formation material of the Earth was pulled to the core while the young Earth was in a molten state. Which removed it from the reach of humans with current technology. After the Earth's surface had cooled and formed a crust, continuing bombardment from asteroids containing gold provided the source of gold in the crust that humans have access to.
