The Graveyard thing Again

Got permission today to hunt some private property. It has an old graveyard that dates back a couple hundred years(all ancient graves). He told me to feel free to hunt it, but just dont dig over the graves.......I wouldn't want to do anything to bring shame to my fellow Tneters. ...........what do you think? Whats ok and whats not?

Well fast forward 200 years and ask yourself if you would want someone metal detecting around the graves of someone you loved and buried. Personally, I would not and could not do it. As they say, let your conscience be your guide.

If you got permission that is all you need from the owner go to it................. You sure don't need our ok we don't own it we can't give you the ok or tell you not to if the owner said it is ok it is ok................. I get permission and hunt them it don't bother me ................ When they give me the ok to hunt a graveyard i hunt it ...................I sure don't need any one here to tell me it is ok or not ok they don't have any say so....... Be your own man...........

As always, as discussed before, be respectful wherever you detect. Reminders: If detecting in a cemetery, or the adjoining grounds, be aware that loved ones do leave momentoes at gravesites. Crucifixes, stones, etc. Over the years, these momentoes can become embedded in the dirt above the grave. Hardly ever is anything of "value" left over a grave; most people have better sense than that.

If you wish to "hunt" a cemetery, we fellow detectorists ask that you stay clear of graves, period. Have fun in the common grounds, but have respect for the final resting places of loved ones, even though they may not be your's.

I have to say from a UK perspective, the idea of detecting near or on someones grave is wrong, however old, in the States they cant be old enough. Over here I wouldn't detect any known grave area out of respect

There ain't nothin' to find in the graveyard, 'cept graves. Sure, coins are everywhere, just by nature of dropping things now and again. But you might as well hunt a woodlot somewhere and expect the same chance of finding a coin.
Hunt the perimeter, look for the areas they hitched the horses, where they parked the cars, outside of the graveyard. Could be good hunting. Nothing against that...... I guess

I wasn't asking permission from everyone, just didn't want to do anything unethical or disrespectful.................sometimes I dont think before I act and usually it cost me one way or the other. I'm relatively new at the hobby and still learning.. thanks.

Don't do it!!! There a MANY more places to hunt aside from a graveyard

I wouldn't want someone digging up around one of my family's graves, would you?!?!

I know the temptation is high. Heck, we've all been there before with certain sites, but, this just wouldn't be right in my book.

Besides, most of the oldies were buried WITH the dead in their coffins. So, aside from the odd coin or whatever that was dropped, I don't think you'll find much. Besides, some other knucklehead with no class probably hit it already.

I say skip it!!!

The land owners only request was do not dig over the graves. So just don,t dig over the graves. Personally I would not go between them either. I would dig around the sites and be carefull not to walk over them either (my personal feelings). I and most others will hunt around grave sites, just respects the graves and you should be OK.

Cemetaries really don't provide much of an opportunity to find things. The parking area might, if there is one.

I made a personal decision not to hunt graveyards, but its just that, a personal decision.

I wouldn’t do it either!!! If you start bringing up crazy looking figures, dolls like and other ceremonial things…it’d be oo late. “The Curse is on!!!!”

You have permission, you have your limitations as stated by the owner, so respect his wishes and go for it.

Just don't use this as an opening to do other cemeteries. Most are on public property and the plots are owned by individual families.

If respect is show all the way around, it should not be a problem. Please remember to leave the land in as good or better condition then when you found it.

im not telling you what to do but, If the graveyard has a fence, ding or hunt on the outside of the fence. Just remember to be respectful of the long dead.

With all seriousness aside.......There may be a lot of gold in them teeth down there. And all the gold and diamond rings.....that they will never need anyway. I say dig up the bodies and take everything of value.......a person could get rich digging up all those old dead people. They have lots of jewelry down there.

Plus all the wallets and shoes.......and don't forget the socks.....and underwear........and the hair can be cut and sold......

But I would never ever think of metal detecting in a cemetery......a metal detector brings too much attention especially in a cemetery.

Now in all seriousness......I would never even think of detecting a cemetery. Ever. Live people don't spend much time at cemeteries and don't drop much anyway.

Stay away from any cemetery........gives the hobby a bad name.....like the grave robbers and detectorists that do go to cemeteries.

If I see any detectorist at a cemetery........there will be heck to pay....I will take your detector and wrap it around a tree. Seriously.
