OK, it's not original, and it's not particularly neat (who cares about pretty?), but I only have to finish lining it and gluing it together and it's road time. Had to buy every single piece by itself, but it was worth it. Detector, spare pack, battery chargers, USB cable, Root Assassin, MU10, rugged sports earphones/repair kit, TRX, batteries. Have I forgotten anything?

You have dedicated a lot of room for rechargeable AA's and chargers. Why not just take the stock charger with you and use the Minelab rechargeable battery?

So how much do you save by building it yourself vers buying a brandnew one?

Where did you find the parts? I mean do people sell bits and pieces of these? Or did you buy a few old broken ones?

Oh never mind I thought you built the "machine" from spare parts lol.

Minelab CTX 3030 (with alkaline battery pack w/ rechargeable Li-ion cells)
Pack of rechargeable Li-ion cells x 10
Spare alkaline battery pack (with recharged Li-ion cells)
Nitecore D4 chargers x 2 w/AC cords
Whites TRX probe
MU 10 Receiver
Root Assassin shovel
Hardcap gel kneepads
Matt's Pack Mule+ (w/ brass probe, coin flipper, Lesche digger)
The CTX 3030 Handbook
Misc Kit - Repair kit, sport earbuds, waterproof plugs, parts, etc.
On their way: Night Vision Components - building a better set of comfortable dual IR eye goggles than you can buy for 7 to 10 times as much or more!!

I had to opt for the Herke cuff because, up until now, I was a Whites owner and got spoiled. The only advantage for me was one that not optional but irreplaceable: the ability to grab the machine quickly and wave it without having to put my arm through the strap. While that might sound picky, it really isn't when you're out to have a good time but your favorite "short cut" doesn't work. (As well, mine came without a strap so I had to do sumpin'.)

DONE! Time to hunt!!

When I put mine together, one of the best things I did was put together a foam cutter. I made it out of a power supply and Nichrome wire. I did not want the holes to have cut marks on them.

It was super easy, and saved me some bucks.

A foam cutter costs as much as my pelican case.

The case is over in the corner.

I made the Pelican so that I can travel with it.

I was in Florida for a couple of work trips, so I checked it as luggage.

If I were to travel I would steal one of these ideas in a minute, but as it stands right now I don't even use the Minelab carrying bag that I got. LOL

Me either. And is that the cheapest bag for a high end machine you've ever seen? The Garrett cammo padded case is nice. The CTX should have came with one like that.
