The ''Hunted Out'' Roman Field - Day 9....

As we continue to grid into an area we have done a little better, our main aim was to keep the silver streak a live with any coin. Cru'dad was first to strike a tiny sliver of a Will III Sixpence - great, job done, we thought. Later however I picked up a Half-crown of the birth year (1922) of my Grandma. (still alive)

Medieval pouring spout
Leather Mounts
2 x 17th C Tokens - one octagon shaped one thats been cancelled with a hole in centre
Rose Farthing
Sliver of Will III Sixpence
Scarce find (although 2nd this year!) Halfcrown 1922

An interesting Medieval (maybe Roman, need to research) looking bodkin hooky thingy

It would have been my dead Nan's Birthday today, & I found 4 coins with dates on them that match the birth years of;

UPDATE:
Can't find anything like my hooky thingy. Similar to a Roman Spindle Hook, but they had a screw in bottom. Similar to some Roman surgical instruments but they had rounder hooks & slightly longer length. Similar to some Roman cosmetic nail cleaners but not quite right. I'm starting to think more Roman than Medieval but can't narrow it to either 100% Very odd bronze object the likes I've never seen, true mystery for now.....

I know it crossed my mind as well. But crocheting started in the 19th C & this is Medieval or earlier. What you can't see is some decoration on the top that is very crudely copying Roman numerals.
They did have 'slip stitching' in the Medieval period, but these hooks were longer & usually made of wood or bone.

Whilst researching these, trying to work out why I hadn't seen them before, I found that Brian Read's 2008 book states they are uncommon & at the time only 4 examples were recorded by Metal Detectorist, I've noticed that there are now 11 examples similar on the PAS. That's less than 1 recorded every year in Britain.

When Cru'dad first passed it to me, I imagined it had another mirror image hook missing, but the more I looked at it, I convinced myself it didn't. Thats one reason my research took me in the wrong directions!
However, if it were complete when found, I would have thought it was a German style of clothes fastener that was imported in the Medieval period, although those had much sharper points.
