Re: The "metal detector mfr's are afraid of LRL's" delusion
I tend to stay out of these discussions, although I do visit on almost a daily basis on my lunch break. It's great reading.
I am a fairly novice treasure hunter. Only about 4 years under my belt. I saw a video of one of these contraptions on you-tube, discovered that it was a LRL, and came to this forum to learn more. I very quickly saw folks were divided into two groups:
1. The folks who contend that LRL's work.
2. The "Skeptics."
I perceived that the skeptics usually followed well reasoned, scientific approaches to their arguments, and yes, they did get nasty sometimes.
I also percieved that the proponents of LRL's tended to sound a lot like people in the grips of religious zeal, ready to babble on incoherently about their particular brand of fanatacism.
That's about when I dismissed LRL's. So, I typically stay out of discussions about them.
That is until I read this.

When a person turn in a Skeptics or atheist, that person get close his or her mind to see what he or she want to see, no matter how many trues we can bring on front of you, you won't accept it as real evidence.
Quite frankly, architecad, you wouldn't know the first thing about what it's like to be an athiest. It is not closing one's mind. Do you know how much of an OPEN mind it takes to disabuse oneself of decades of indoctrination and societal norms? Do you know how much we struggle with it? You don't. So please don't include us in with your dogma.
Although, I do find it interesting that you lump us in with people that are skeptical of LRL's. If the Skeptics and Atheists are in the same group, then their converse, or LRL proponets and Theists, must also be the same group.
Yes, I do look at your belief in LRL's as a religion. It has all the hallmarks of one, for instance:
1. The unquestioning belief in LRL's in contrast of sound science.
2. The tendency to attack people who don't agree.
3. The sanctification of human beings at the head of your belief system.
I'm pretty sure the "skeptics" on here are just trying to keep people from drinking the kool-aid. I, for one, hope they continue to do it.
