I'm sitting here and that, oh so familiar sound is getting closer and closer. It can only mean "The fire breathing monsters are back"... My 55 pound bold & fierce dog Ollie springs to action and heads for the door out back to go out and deal with the this terrible threat. My 8-1/2 pound dog Bella stays back at the other end of the room and will be there at the last line of defense, but she's not going out side to the front, no mater what, as she has her places in the house to retreat for cover if the situation worsens. Good thing is these monsters come and go quickly. Fire works and thunder are another threatening mater altogether. In those events Bella heads straight for the space between the bead and wall in my room as that's her foxhole.

Those balloons sound like a blast furnace going over head.

When we lived back in Waco, Texas, there was an annual event of balloons. We lived several miles from the 'launch' site, so we didn't hear the roaring of them being 'fired up'. But, we sure enjoyed watching them as they gracefully sailed by overhead (if they came our way). Lots of beautiful color.

Sorry you're so close, Tamrock. Hope Bella doesn't get the 'trembling' like Macy.

My little chi/terrier mix weighs just over 9 pounds, trembles like she is freezing when scared. Not a lot scares her; but gee, when it does! We had a large field on fire about a block from our house a few years ago. She could smell the smoke and dove under the bed and stayed there trembling for over an hour. I finally pulled her out and held her for a while until she calmed down.

Large animals that could tear her apart are like a challenge to her instead of frightening her. There are a couple of cats that come around occasionally. They probably weigh at least 11 or 12 pounds, maybe more. She would run up to them like she was going to tear them apart. They weren't afraid of her, but let her bark and then sniff them a bit. Now, they just tolerate each other. They could probably do some serious damage to her! Large dogs? No fear. But I try to keep her away because I know she can be hurt badly by them. A lot of large dogs won't fight small dogs. I don't really know why. I've been told that the small dogs are so much faster, giving them an advantage; but not so sure. Maybe the big dogs just think they're superior enough that they don't have to show the little ones who is 'boss'. lol

Bella runs are cat out of are bed room all the time, but sometimes the cat will crouch down like, he's stalking and targeting Bella and then spring out at her. Bella just freezes and doesn't move, as the cat knows how to mess with her nerves. Sometimes the cat places his paw on her and if she moves he extends his claws a little and Bella won't budge. Bella just has to sit and take it until the cats had his fun with her, but when the cats done and his hind end is facing Bella, she chases him barking up the stairs the cat can scale up in one leap. I know the cat is just messing with Bella's inability to keep up also. It can be comical at times and only in her mind she's a big dog. :laughing7:

Pets are such fun to watch when they play together. We had two dogs and one cat, (only one dog and one cat now of ours) when my son and I lived by ourselves. I would sit a laugh until I coundn't get my breath watching the cat stalk the dogs. The cat was 'declawed' on her front feet so the dogs weren't afraid of her 'claws'. They would play for a while until the dogs got tired and would try to stop. The cat would continue until the dogs would finally 'put the cat in her place'. I remember once when the dogs grew tired and got to growling and barking at the cat and thought all was at an end. No, the cat actually bit one of the dogs in the middle of its back when he started to walk away. There was quite a nasty battle until I stepped in and stopped it. I didn't find any blood. I was always telling them that when they got through with their 'battles' they had to clean up the 'blood and gore'.

When we first moved here with my daughter, who has a cat that is also declawed on his front feet, the two cats had some 'hellacius' battles. We all laughed at times until tears were streaming down our cheeks. The two cats would be facing each other and start 'pawing' each other like two boxers. All the 'yowling' and hissing! I never had the camera, with video, or the video cam corder handy during these fierce battles. After 4 years they have settled down, but sometime I hear them battling again.
