Got to the woods today around 4:30. After about an hour and a half, I've worked my way down to the general area where I found the 1905-S Barber Dime in EF condition the other day. At this point all I've found is an old flat button and some very small pieces of 19th century copper or brass. So I start hunting this area, and I'm getting a few decent signals, but again, they turn out to be incidental metal parts and pieces. Finally, I get a real strong penny signal at three inches. Now, my first thought was it's probably a Wheat Penny. Then I think, well maybe it's an Indian Head, and my last thought before pulling the plug is maybe it's a Large Cent. So I pull out a plug, and looking into the hole I see a very small dirt-covered coin shaped disc. I noticed it was too small to be a penny or a dime, so as I pick it up, I see a bit of silver and I first thought I had some kind of Spanish Reale or a Silver Three Cent Piece. Needless to say I was ecstatic when I realized it was an 1829 Capped Bust Half Dime! No happy dance, but plenty of out loud wows and yeses!
