When I think back to a Coke,2 bubble gums and a Moon Pie for less than 10 cents and Elvis being banned from local radio as 'SINNFULLL'!.....

You did bring back some memories.

In my house, we had to put the TV on early "to let it warm up" at least that is what Dad said. A self propelled lawn mower was you pushing it. There were no such things as CD or DVD, we had a tape recorder and if you were lucky, you had an 8 track player. No computer to type on, if you were lucky, you knew somebody that had a typewriter. As much as we did not like our parents for being tough on us as kids, I think as a whole, we turned out pretty good. Mom and Dad were right.

I was about 12 when we got our first tv . It had been turned on & warmed up to many times
already . Dad bought it at an auction sale . Got 2 channels , sometimes only one . Transister radios
came into existance when I was in the 6th grade . I got a whupping for playing one in school . We
rocked & rolled to the music of a record player & in my teens an 8 track .
When I was in grade school a bottle of pop was a dime & all candy bars was a nickel except
for almond joy & mounds . They were a dime . Candy bars was also larger than they are now . In
high school cigs were 30 cents a pack except for a couple cheap brands that was a quarter . When
I started driving gas was 30 cents a gallon except for a couple discount places where it was 26 to
28 cents a gallon . I could go on & on but I won't .

The 'slick' pages of the Sears catalogue wouldn't really take care of the paperwork but they still beat corn cobs.
Throw rugs were the path from the bed to the slop jar during the winter so that your bare feet didn't freeze to the linoleum and the ballpeen hammer beside the jar was to break the ice so you didn't splatter your feet and the floor.
The quarter inch of snow on top of your quilts come morning was only what blew in under the shake roof during the night.That same roof hardly leaked a drop during the hardest rain in the summer.
You could double the life of that ten cent poke of Bugler rollyerown with an equal ammount of dry corn silk and actually improve the taste.
Fun for the rural mail carrier was meeting you and several of your friends on bicycles at a mudhole and splashing all of you as he zoomed by.
Fun for you and your mudsplattered friends was livetrapping a big boar coon that night,teasing him by poking him with sticks or whatever until just before the mail carrier came up the road the next day.
That's when you put the PO'ed coon in the mail box and hid to watch the show.
I have it on good authority that PO'ed coons have a penchant for driving abandoned mail carrier vehicles into the first available tree.
Rural mail carriers who lose a vehicle under such circumstances are also likely to start carrying candy to make friends with the local heathens.

Things weren't all good. I had a paper route for a shopping ads paper in 1963. I delivered 120 papers one day a week. My first paycheck for the month was $1.08 Talk about child exploitation!

Dang , how long did you keep that job ?
