I was out today canvasing the local banks and went in one that has big 7s all over it. Apparently their hours are 7-7 everyday including Sundays. What makes it a perfect bank you ask. The 3 young ladies at work this morning offered me an account. I listened to their pitch and then they dropped the bomb I was hoping for. Against the wall under spotlights is a coin counter. It is free to use and they will either hand you the cash or if you want to deposit it,they will take it. I opened 4610 coins today and I don't need to re-roll any of them. They said bring them in and dump them and they would take them all. Cheers, Jim

Any chance that it was a Commerce Bank? I considered an account and still might, but the first box I got there was pennies. All 2006! As new as the bank itself!

Just opened up and account at one here in Dallas earlier this week. Told me they would order all the half dollars I could afford, got a few thousand dollars worth, all in boxes and crimped rolled.... what did i find, nothing. was cheching mint marks, dates, double dies and all. But same here at least I know where I can go dump the others I pick up!!

It's also a good idea about once a month to take the tellers a box of cookies, candy, fruit or whatever. It lets them know you appreciate them and they might even save you stuff they find from their till.

Don't forget to check at the credit unions, mine has a coin counter behind the counter, I bring in my coins $500 per 5 gal bucket (thats all the weight some of the small tellers can handle) and they dump it in. I always deposit into savings and go to another branch (near the bank I buy from) to get cash on the day I pick up the next boxes.

My bank just got a machine last week I already dumped in over $2000 in change. Only problem is I have filled the machine bags and it says out of order when full. I have filled it 3 times this week.

Most of the local Wells Fargos aruond me have the self serve coin counting machines that just put all the coins into one big hopper (no sorting done by the machine). Therefore, the only time they fill up is when the big bin is full. Over the last 6 months, I have only seen this happen 3 times.

I believe I heard they are operated by Brinks and I think they get picked up daily. This also means that the tellers never have to lift the reject bags. A couple of weeks ago, I had to get the guard to watch the machine so I could run to the car and get my other two bags of rejects. Was the second most volume I had ever cashed in (maxed out 3 canvas bags).

Personally I like the banks having the self serve counting machines, I wish all of them did that. Then the tellers couldn't pick out the goodies and they would get returned in rolls so we could search for 'em.
