All Treasure Hunting
I am very new to this hobby. Maybe 3 weeks or so and I don't have an actual ton of time to be out in the field. I haven't found much, some clad change and a silver ring, among dozens of pull tabs and bottle caps. Digging things out of the ground is super exciting as you never know what will come up. What I have found in the past 3 weeks is the real treasure. Nothing compares to the feeling I get about researching, and learning about places, people, and ways of life. The history behind every place I go, what these people did, how they lived their lives. The real treasure is in the history, to me it's worth more than a monetary value you can place on any item you may find. The finding beat things aspect is an extension of that history, as every item has a story behind it. How did that get there? Who owned it? Why did it end up there.... A million questions can arise from one found object, thus creating a tangible piece of history with every item dug. This, to me, is the real treasure.

P.S. Not saying I wouldn't be ecstatic over a cache of buried gold! After all there is history an a story behind that as well!!! Lol

Well you're right, you have found the real treasure, it's in the thrill of the hunt, and the history you uncover and learn along the way.
Shhhhhh! It's treasure hunters secret. Enjoy it!

yuppers...well said and welcome !!

Like I always say, if only the the things we dig could talk. Now there would be an interesting history lesson.

Now you have joined a wise place to learn and share, Welcome!

Welcome to the addiction!

Thanks for all the welcomes, and I am glad to be here! Can't wait to get back to the field. May have a little time tomorrow if everything works out. There's a park 30 minutes from home established in 1891 (actually 3) but one in specific that has peaked my interest as 6 of the tracts of land for the park were donated in the late 1800's from private owners. I was able to do some research and I have located the vicinity of an old homesite turned museum that was demolished around 1889. Hopefully some interesting stuff to be found!!!!

Research is key to successful hunting. Sounds like you are off to a good start. GL and HH :icon_thumright:
