Ok... I have been reading here about opinions on SEF and Tesoro made coils. I am going to get a larger coil soon and was hoping some more input has been developed.

I currenty have a Cibola and am soon to get a Tejon... so I can swap the coils out between the machines. I am a little concerned however about the lack of ground balance on the Cibola becoming a problem. I really don't want to send in a detector to get retuned for a coil swap. Just not sure if that monster will rear its ugly head or not.

At any rate... the places im searching and will be searching with the Tejon will be fairly junk free. Im just seeing how fast these targets sink in this East Texas sand and Im diggin goodies at the edge of my stock Cibolas capability.

Anyway... who do you like for big coils and why?

It is a concern about lack of GB with the Cibola and replacing the stock Tesoro coil with a none Tesoro coil that isn't calibrated to the detector. Much better to stick with the larger Tesoro coils. The Tejon will handle the SEF coil better but its been my experience that the Excel coils aren't an improvement over the Tesoro Widescan coils.

I would only change coils on a Tesoro with ground balance..I have a Vaquero with a ten turn pot. Coils are stock 8 by 9 concentric, both 5,75 inch coils concentric and widescan, and the 3 by 18 Clean Sweep..With EVERY coil change, the ground balance position changes over my fixed area .One coil requires a major adjustment, all others relatively minor..So, if your detector has a fixed GB point, changing coils can result in ,possibly, less performance. The 10 turn pot[which can drive you to drink on occasion] really allows the Clean Sweep coil to grab rings.
