The predictions from CISM and the CCMC indicate that the three CME's from the latest three solar flares should coalesce and impact soon.

Whether the CME's actually will cause severe solar activity depends on the direction of the Interplanetary Magnetic Field, which is still unknown until the CME passes the ACE spacecraft at the L1 point.

Our model uses the measured solar wind parameters to make a good, but short-term, prediction of space weather. Our system predicts both the polar cap potential, plus the Kp, AE, and Dst indices. These indexes show mid-latitude activity (maximum is 9); auroral activity (no maximum but 1000 is strong and 2000 is severe); and ring current intensity (negative numbers are stronger; -100 is a strong storm).

Right now the system is set up to send a yellow alert if the predicted or nowcasted Kp is 4 or larger, and a red alert if the predicted or nowcasted Kp is 6 or greater

My own research showed sun spot and flare activity messed up my LRL system. In fact, after 10 am the sun interfered so much with the LRL signal (clairvoyant could no longer see the signal line) that the electronic dowsing system was useless. After 3pm the signal levels would come back up so we could detect.

I look at the SOHO website daily. Watch the mpeg movies. Great info AND you see crazy things!-from comets and meteors blazing into and around the sun to the strangest anomalies zipping about. The activity this past year has been exceptional.

There was absolutely no increase in vlf reception from the latest solar disturbance. I will repeat this the UV and X-rays (produce excitation) is what causes increased reception known as "Sudden Ionospheric Disturbances" and there wasn't any and it is not associated with solar wind that the Kp index shows.

I suspect how this whole superstition got started was someone was watching the Kp index when it was in the red when an SID hit and they assumed it was the Kp index. Some people just refuse to let go of their superstitions.

And furthermore, you don't need increased reception to get adequate locating conditions. It's there unless there is a geomagnetic disturbance like the Kp index shows which is only a generalization, nothing specific. And even then the geomagnetic disturbance does not usually last but a few minutes (or even less) at a time---it comes and goes, sometimes often. But when it is off and on, it can damage locating conditions but five minutes later it might be okay. If you don't have steady conditions, the signal line cannot develop and things like iron will not get discriminated out. And when the disturbance is steady, even iron will not produce a signal , nothing.
