The Tubes were a seriously interesting group back in the mid-70's, and are still rockin' today.

Their older work was some pretty unique stuff...no idea what category they'd fall in.

Yea I had the cassette White Punks on Dope.

I was Actually Surprised She's a Beauty Was Them.

I Believe 'White Punks' was the Catagory
Not Sure on the dope

As said, it's amazing the transition their music has gone through over the decades.
When they first started out, it was the "White Punks on Dope" attitude with the
outlandish costumes, etc.

At some point they decided to make good music that wasn't on the fringe, and that
would attract a bigger audience.

I wonder How Much Learning their Insturments helped.
they may have been newbies to the whole thing back then.
