The week-End Memories of a GoldMiner' Son. [1890]
Morning all, 12.09 am and the temp is still over 90 F outside. Yes quite a scorcher yesterday and another today. So do you think that stopped me LOL No About 6 pm i couldn,t hold off any longer and out the door like a raving lunatic. I decided to head over to a hard rock mine .The Husstler & Redan most active mining on this section of the New Chum Quartz Reef was between 1860-1910. I worked the tailings dump which i have moderate luck some time ago. Funny i just keep going back to same sites over the years .Shows no site, even a gold bearing one that even after a 160 years of gold hunting theres still gold to be found. My aim this year is to build a large collection of matrix and species. No not to sell just something i haven,t done before.
Included in today's post i have included a couple of gold mine "Call Shares"[circa 1890]
Memory from a gold miners son [ Samuel Clifford Blainey] 1890's
Old photo of the Husstler & Redan Mine 1890's
Picture of the shaft today and few of the large hole i dug getting one specie from
In second lot of pics is the settings and coil[8x12] used with a GPX 4500 .the target was a soft signal but i retrieved it at 2 feet and the gpx was not even on full settings and only a small coil. Quite a feat in anyones book. Nearly a gram specie at 2 feet in minerlized tailing dump. I might even get good at this one day Lol

Life in the WeekEnd of a 1890 Miners House
Most homes though well cared for, were unpretentous. ...most floors were covered with linoleum or nothing. Mats were used here and there for warmth. Wood was the only fuel. Some housewives cooked with camp ovens and others on an open fire place with two iron bars spanning the "hobs" or shelves at the sides. Lighting the fire was the first act of the morning, and some fire seldom went out till bed time. Wash-house was a common name for a laundry. The copper was heated with wood,... The wash tubs were mounted on benches or chairs. One of them supported a wringer. Manual labour was the only way of conveying water from tap to copper, and copper to tub to sink. ... Our refrigerator was a "Coolgartie" - a tall food safe shaped arrangement enclosed in hessian .that was kept damp on a hot day by water conducted through flannel strips from a tray of water on the top. Its was most effective. We had a 5 roomed weather-board house- a resent construction. We had 3 bedrooms and a dining room [a lounge was a luxury]. The kitchen ,wash-house and bathroom were detached and connected by a verandah. It was roomy without being elaborate.
The menu of the evening meal on Saturday was usually roast dinner. This provided a carry- over to for Sunday to avoid needless cooking. which like other needless chores was frowned on by some and forbidden by others. Cold meat and vegetables and cold dessert sufficed on the day of rest.Any visitors came for tea rather than dinner, and went off to evening service with their host and hostess.

? Well if you use a small mono coil you can use the nose sensor to locate stongest signal by moving in and out of signal. Dig your hole a little wider and use left -hand or right hand sensor of coil by rolling your wrist. Always dig forward of your target. So much easier than put md down and getting pinpointer out.
