They won't mean much to pretty much anyone who sees them on here, but they are military buttons local to my area... one dating to the 1860s, and other 1793-1802. On average I only find one of these every few years so two in one hunt, from different eras, and different sites, is certainly not something I would expect. The mid. 1800s one is a first for me, and the other I have only dug one and it was way back in 1999.

The other funny thing is the 1860s one I dug my very first target of the day and the other was right at the end of my hunt, like the 2nd last target... but I gladly would have made it my last because I was beat and my day had been made complete. I'll gladly take a couple of local buttons to bookend my hunt any day!

I'll also include the other stuff. Victoria sixpence, Canadian 5 cent, 10 coppers and 4 parts of coppers.

Good score that first button is tip top shape.

Those buttons really made for a great day IP. I really like the photos of the buttons on their book page.

Cool buttons, congratulations .

Man you've dug some incredible military buttons. Looks like a great hunt to me buddy. I better get my butt home and dig up some treasure 8-)

if it makes you feel better, I rarely find them too

we had a good day discovering new sites and digging lots

I'd feel better if I would have dug one of the two the same that you got, which I am still waiting for! It only took some better light to realize what I had, but was bitter sweet not seeing the word I wanted to see! .... but still cool, and I just checked the muster rolls and only two are said to have settled there, so may do a little research this Winter. I think maybe we should revisit the entire side of that river. And maybe the other one too!

It's like a handicap head start to even things out. :) I think that for a couple of reasons. The first is that you can get several keepers with very limited digging given the age of your sites, and believe me, for what IH and I get we are working for it. The 2nd thing is your top 10 could have several coins by the time it's all said and done, and there's definitely more coin people on here than relics.... and right now every space in my top 10 is a relic! All that said, I am kicking your a$$ right now spoonman. :laughing7: And you too Kirk PA. ;)

It wouldn't hurt my feelings to try a couple more fields in that area..again

I do have a new site marked for the other side. Field we have never been in, plus there's a couple of very large ones in back of the big point field which we have never tried, and didn't know existed as they can't be seen from the road. I don't expect either to have anything, but if you want to spend an hour rolling the dice, they look plenty good enough to try.

Congrats on the great looking button, a that's the hunt right there.

Some nice old history in your finds there.

DANG PATCH KILLER FINDS .....

Yeap, looks good to me.

I'd be happy with a couple military buttons in one hunt.
Lots of targets, lots of fun, keeps you interested. I find things (heat, cold, bugs, tiredness) bother me much less when I'm poppin out the old stuff.

Love seeing old military stuff, well old stuff all together, nice finds,
