Watch some videos. How much weight do you want to swing? The Deus is wireless & ultra light, The CTX is heavier and makes different sounds that the normal tones. If you can't afford the CTX you can get the E-Trac, not waterproof, but does give the same 2 number readings as the 3030. Do your homework and make an educated decision. Good Luck with what ever you choose. :icon_thumleft:

It's possible you could have 2 Deus machines for the price of one CTX....so there is that.

Call Rusty or Allen monday and quiz them on their machines. Or talk to Terry Solomon Pinenut or Tabman here. They can give you good advice.

I wouldn't make a quick impulse buy just to satisfy a desire to get a new toy. My opinion, that being said shopping is more fun than making the actual purchase. I bet there are many great brands on the market. I never put down on brands beings most high end detectors are probably top notch. I only know Tesoro, and I don't even know them that well. I know they make a great product and stand behind it, also with great customer support and I do mean Great! Some folks can't be satisfied either way. What type of hunting do you want your next machine to be geared around? Is their a feature that you prefer or something you need it to do more supreme than the AT pro? I hear the AT pro is a great do all machine, or maybe should I say versatile. Youtube has a man named scannerguy1968 he does reviews on different brands and models. Scores them on depth sensitivity and recovery. He helped me decide on some things. Just research, and then do some more research, being careful of opinions and focus on hard core facts.

That lemon pie does not look overrated.

I want to go deeper silver. I know my AT Pro really good, but I'm starting to think the XP Deus could get me what I'm missing. I use the AT Pro with the hunter coil.

I would also not enjoy going through the transition of the learning period.

The E-trac and CTX are excellent silver machines.

What's better about CTX with the price difference? Also which one is more user-friendly? Coming off the AT Pro I'm sure they're much different. I've never been much of her owners manual reading type of guy.

They have a guy in Ponchotula that went from a At pro to a deus. South Louisiana metal detecting is his Facebook handle. I would call him and see what he thinks about it from doing the transition. I know that he sold his AT pro. I don't think that the learning curve with Tesoro is like most people say. Digging silver should be a no brainer especially coins on the flat. Coins always hit hard. Who knows, I might get an XP deus on of these days! Please let us know what you get when you do. Always feel free to message me if you like. We need to hunt together one of these days. I hunt with a friend but I don't think we say two words to each other while we hunt! Unless we are challenging who can guess the target. I always tell him stuff like, "If you don't dig it I will." Gets him fired up to dig can slaw!

My Garrett AT Pro air tests 11" on a quarter. My Makro Racer (original red model) air tests 14" on a quarter. They reduced the retail price to only $499. It's only single frequency, but on a You Tube video they tested several of the best single frequency detectors in Culpeper, VA, which is highly mineralized. On a bullet, many were getting weaker at 4" but the Makro Racer still loud. One took some of this highly mineraliized dirt home & the bullet was still strong signal at 6". Used, these detectors can be found for $325-$400. The weight is roughly identical to the AT Pro (about 3 lbs). It also uses 4 AA batteries.

Keith Southern did a video of the Makro Racer 2 on You Tube, showing it air testing 20" on a nickel. An air test should roughly equal what the detector could do in unmineralized dirt. My AT Pro correctly IDed a 7" deep dime on every pass. Moderately mineralized soil that was totally dried out. Lots of detectors can beep deep, but will give poor ID beyond 4 or 5 inches.

White's has the MX Sport with problems now corrected, about $749. White's showed video 12.5" air test on a quarter, and was much quieter than MX5 or MXT. It also can be submerged in shallow water. The weight I think is something like 4.25 pounds, including batteries. Best wishes, George (MN)

Calabash has some great videos on his posts in the XP Deus forum. Carolina Tom, Eastcoasthunter21, Bartek, p@tch, supershaum all swing the Deus even Scrappy has one to use when he decides not to swing his CTX 3030. Terry Solomon just did a review on another detector that might interest you, the Makro Racer 2, his review has piqued my interest along with a post from October where he used the Makro Racer 2 but did not disclose which detector he was swinging.

You beat me to the punch, great minds think alike. :icon_thumleft:

I'll make my way out to Ponchatoula at least once a month to detect out there. Let's get together and do that one day. I don't have Facebook. Way to much drama for me, but I would like to talk with that guy. I'm also considering the Deus of course.

Thanks for taking the time you tell me that. I'm gonna look up the Macro Racer.

I don't have a Facebook either. Fakebook I call it. But if you look up that name his phone number is on the front. I talked to him and he is a cool guy. He said I really likes his Deus. I most probably will have a hundred detectors myself one day like all these other guys. Just keep in touch. Im about to get busy with work, but we can get together to detect sometimes.

Neither has a tough learning curve, but, I'd say the E-trac is slightly easier. The main advantages the CTX has over the E-trac is: CTX is waterproof, is able to track more than one target at a time, and the GPS feature.
