Looks like a fossilized Starfish to me! It is not carved because it is of a different material (composition) than the rock that it is embedded in.

Sand Dollar fossil.

After going back and looking over the pics again, I retract my statement that it is a Starfish Fossil! Since there is a roundish outline around the white inner star like fossilization, then this must have been the outer protective hard body portion of the Sand Dollar for protection.

Definitely a fossilized sand dollar!
THAT tells you that the area was once an qcean bed or at least a shoreline!
Can you provide some OLD maps of that might show a body of water or beach?

It looks like a Sea Biscuit shell to me. Interesting, Breezie

Not really worthless... Someone might "treasure" it... but not a "treasure" for you...

A fossilized sand dollar that size - if collected intact with some of the surrounding matrix - might sell for $60.

Better to take a picture and leave it for all to enjoy. Especially in a rock that size.

Google: echinoids

Just goes to show you how high the water was at one time in that spot. Saltwater at that.
