Real enough, and reported to have happened in Keyport, New Jersey. Didn’t attract newspaper attention because no-one was injured, but widely shared on local digital news outlets such as the Patch Network and then on firefighter community sites such as the ‘Firefighter Brotherhood.’

The power wasn’t off because this was just a bizarre accident involving a roofing contractor’s extension ladder that unfortunately made contact with a high-voltage power line and melted the sidewalk it was standing on.
