This is why I like clad *farms*.

Clad factories are pretty good, in that they seem to always

be regenerating. Good for morale, sometimes, to walk around picking up quarters.

But, clad "farms" are modern places built on top of old places.

There is still the clad but there's always the potential for an old surprise.

Like today's.

First of all, there was this piece:






My first impression is a small crotal bell but
it seems so solid! Apparently brass. Doesn't seem to
be magnetic. Fairly heavy too.

And....let me just cut to the chase. Today was a really long "walk"
and....OMWBTTC.....I got this hit:



I was VERY tired at the moment. I took one look and said,
"Oh Fine! Another clad quarter and this one is totally useless, bent! "

Then, I checked the date.... 19 OHHHHH two!!!!!?? LOL

Had a really hard life..such a shame!
Look at the condition of this coin, otherwise.
Even a full "LIBERTY"!





Think I should try to straighten her out?

At least the day made me smile.

Old silver with great detail!
For sure straighten out the beautiful old coin.

That's one trip Blingie may not need his passport for. Lol!
The ticket is bigger than him.
Fishy seems interested in a little travel too.

See that your old silver coins are floating to the surface. That has really nice detail.
The trail back to the car seems to be a magical one at times.

The round brass does look like a bell.
Other than that the only thing i can think of is a screw on brass knob for furniture or a lamp. The threaded part could account for the amount of rust in it. But thats just a guess.

Now that was an awesome long walk, well worth it!

No vice needed. Put between 2 pieces of 2x4 and whack with a hammer. The wood will absorb the impact to keep the hammer from marring the metal but enough energy will be transferred to bend the coin. Wrap the coin in a piece of leather or cloth first to further minimize any minor damage. If you try to bend in a vice you will be much more likely to damage it and also get an uneven bend. If you need to re bend or hit it again re anneal.

Actually, I once found what was probably a very beautiful 1800's quarter. Trouble was, somebody had done the ole railroad trick on it. Kind of felt sad/happy about finding it.

Congrats on the great Barber quarter. Definitely straighten her out, I bet she will look great. Really nice crotal bell also. I would drill out the iron oxide. I dozen or so careful smaller diameter drill bits 3/4 into the bell might loosen it up. Then some careful taps on wood or patience with some soaking method. Take your time it looks like it could be a show piece.
