Suprise! The government ownes 650M ac. or 29% of America and they are planning on acquiring 13M more as "national monuments". That means 13M more acres you can't hunt on. Frank

They don't own anything - they just think they do. They forgot the meaning of "stewardship". And let's not forget about the environmental groups, that our governments are selling our lands to (how can you sell something you don't own is beyond me, I think if I did that, someone would be putting me in prison for fraud).

And then, there are the states, the counties, parishes, and your neighbors. They tax, make regulations, covenants, ordinances and then your
neighbor complains about what you are doing on the land you own.

So.................................who really owns what?

actually the federal govt or various state and local tax districts owns all the land * stop and think -- if they do not "own it outright" as a park or such -- if a "private person or bussiness" so called "owns" the land --they charge annual rent "known" as taxes --do not pay the "land rent" taxes --and see what good "owning" the house / bussiness building that sits upon that land does you --as its sold for "back taxes" owed to the govt "tax" folks (city, county, state and federal)

so in effect you never really "own" the land outright -- you just have the "annual rent" of it and some control of whats built upon it , maybe how it can be used / exploited and who you allow to access it.

not allowing folks to every really own land --tax free--is how the govt keeps its self in money -- you have to always pay to just to stay put in the house you "own" -- land taxes are thus a never ending exploitation of home owners and bussiness owners -- thus you will always have to pay them for life if you own anything thus your forced to support the grubbermint for life.---or you can be be a life long "renter" of property -- subject to the whims of so called "land owners" that rent a place to live to you.

Google Obama's "Great Outdoors" program and read between the lines. It's a new program to "protect" public land. He is involving "corporations" and "big ranchers" in developing this program. Right now these ranchers pay pennies to lease thousands of acres of public land for their livestock to graze on so that can maintain their wealth. They also fence it off and deny access to the public. In some cases they post no trespaasing signs on land they don't have a right to. The public believes they shouldn't be allowed on the land and ignor..ant..ly obey the signs. These ranchers he is involving in this program would just as soon be able to shoot the public for walking on their own land. Do you think the timber or railroad industries want you on land they are operating. No, but they are involved. Lastly, "environmental groups" are "HAILING" the program........need I say more?? Forget enjoying "your" land people. You will be controlled like robots if allowed on the land at all.

My, my - we ARE a cynical bunch, aren't we And we all agree.

I don't even want to hear about Obama - in case you haven't noticed, this has been going on forever - we have been taught to "compromise".

The government (or environmental group) wants 1000 acres. We say "no". We go to meetings, write letters, the whole bit. Then, the government
(or environmental group) says - in some court somewhere - "they are not dealing in good faith". So, we have to deal in good faith. The government (or environmental group) says: "well, we can probably do what we want with 200 acres". The "people" fight back - no, that's too
much. You can have 100. The government (or environmental group) says " ok". We have a win-win situation. My arse - the "people" have just LOST - 100 acres.

Pretty soon, we are going to be the endangered species.


And, even though I really believe that the majority of folks feel this way - we are not "organized" - like the government (or environmental group).

Well 99% of you are on the right track, thank god I'm in the 1% I do own a small parcel of land, very small to say the least. This little plot can be taken, but then again they have to find it Right now I have this piece of land in a 4' x 6' box, maybe a foot deep. Within this land I have already planted a small forest of Bonsai trees and I'm looking to grow a miniature orchard.

Remember you own nothing, you are just leasing it for a while. As for foreign countries owning property in the US, I'd like to see them take it with them if they are ever asked, or told to leave

No need to get all uptight about it, we are just borrowing it for a short time while we are here anyway. You can't take it with you, and if you leave it to your children, they will have to pay an inheritance tax on it, or loose it. So enjoy it while you can, and don't worry about what happens when your gone. Good Luck. rockhound

I read in a David Bach book, that you can set up a "trust" instead of a "will" that can protect your children from the inheritance tax. I have not looked into it, but he wrote that they would be co-owners but that you can set it up so that you have full control while you are alive. Always something I planned to look into, but haven't done it.
