This Past Week's Finds

Working on various missions at the moment, and the only daylight I can use to hunt is lunch time. Here are the results of my hour-a-day efforts. Meager, but it's a swing. The crucifix and gold heart gave me a start, but I gave up trying to find the silver markings on the cross. The heart has no stamp either, but has a hairline crack down the seam with some rust that identifies it as plated. I found it at a soccer field that has been abandoned since the mid 1970s. The specialist 5 rank is an older style and I suspect it is from the late 1960s or early 70s. This week I not only found my first key, but 4 keys all from different locations. I dug hundreds of targets and found lots of old casings and some bullets. The casings are identified by the year of production and caliber. The grenade fuses are the 2nd and 3rd for this year. $1.32 in clad rounded it out. The 3 clean clad coins were a surface pocket spill I found after putting my detector away. At the lower left of the last picture is a pile of tabs and can slaw. The only thing not included is the dozens of rusty nails.

Re: This Past Week's Finds

Nice finds but i am curious what is a 30-06 inert? I own a 30-06 but never heard of an inert :icon_scratch:

Re: This Past Week's Finds

An inert round is a practice round that has no powder propellent, but has a filler to provide the same training weight as ball cartridges. The casing is crimped to identify it. It is used to train loading/unloading/immediate action procedures on a weapon.

Well at least your getting rid of the bad stuff so you can get to the good stuff. I will be down that way with Scott this weekend, hopefully you can meet up with us.
