Thought I had a cache for a minute!

I was hunting an area today that had seen some Civil War activity and was then used as a farm for about 70 years afterward. Didn't find anything worthwhile, but I got one of my biggest "disappointments" of my detecting career . After digging about 6" or so I saw the side of a Mason jar appear. I carefully dug it out and saw it was intact with a corroded lid still attached. I slightly shook the jar and heard rattling inside. I took it to a nearby creek where I washed off the sides. It was an aqua pint size Ball Perfect Mason and inside were four old marbles. Oh well, I guess a little unnecessary excitement is good for you. Sad thing is that jar was the best thing I found today!

Thought I'd share that with you and see if anyone else has had any similar experiences.

Happy hunting,

Tom

I agree with Bowman-- Those old marbles can really be worth something. Maybe you found more than you thought you did!

you did find a cache...just not a money one unless the marbles are worth bucks, but to the kid that buried them that was probably his greatest treasure at the time. Its a great find.

I know that would be one of my favorite finds if I dug it up! That is too cool! Same kid might have later hid money in a cache....may be a pattern....go check again! lol
