Very interesting find, Neil. Never seen or ever heard of one before. That makes your find special. Good eye!! I would have propably missed that one :laughing7:

Nice find buddy! You don't come across those too often so you should feel "pumped" ;D :icon_thumleft:

I actually have one. Found it last year. It's a hard times token. Mine is in much worse shape than yours. VF is $35. Being corroded, and holed, it's not worth much. Probably would be a nice gesture to give to the property owner if they wanted it. NICE FIND for the collection. Hogge

You should be thrilled!!! That is quite a find. Don't see too many of them. Especially in that condition. I would go back to that place and work it over real good. Bound to be AT LEAST a few other goodies there.

Superb hunt

That's an incredible find there Kimsdad :notworthy: A very nice gesture on your behalf,
offering to return it to the property owners after all your hard work cleaning it :icon_thumright:

Hi Neil,
I tried just a wet toothbrush to no avail, so it was hot hydrogen peroxide baths with more scrubbings every 10-15 minutes. It really made the difference. I checked it often & when the amount of detail coming out slowed down, I stopped. Then a thin coating of beeswax & a light rubbing while the wax was still soft. It made all the difference in the world! Hope this helps!

Looks like it still has some good detail on it. Nice find! Maybe a couple of large cents hiding out in the yard somewhere.

I have one of those on my keychain along with some other LC for conversation perps.

really cool finds! :icon_thumleft:

I still can't get over how nice that piece was when you showed it to me this morning

You did a wonderful job cleaning it up

(Oh. . . nice silver too ;D)

Excellent recoveries!

First time I've ever seen or heard of these.....Great job on the clean-up and Congrat's on your first :icon_thumright:

That is cool. First I had ever seen or heard of one. :icon_thumleft:

Pssst... are you heating your peroxide in the microwave or stove? I dont know how it's done. I'd like to see the results from your cool coin afterwards though!

Thanks for the research and good job working you way thru the interferance. :hello2:

There are 17 varieties of the 1837 Liberty-Not One Cent Hard Times Token listed in Russell Rulau's revision of Lyman H.Low's 1899 classic reference catalog for these tokens. From what I can see from your pics it looks like your variety is listed as Low's 31 in the catalog. It's a common variety, but not a common find, coming out of the ground. Nice find for sure and in good shape too, except for the hole. I sort of collect HTT's and actually dug one up myself once (low's 148) . Though it was/is in very bad shape. Congrat's and H.H.

I just saw a huge full page ad in the local newspaper. Some outfit was in town buying collectable coins, silver and gold, etc. Hard luck coins was one of the things specifically mentioned. So there must be a collectors market for them somewhere. Monty

Microwave - just until it begins to bubble, then put the coin in. Reheat peroxide after each scrub.

Thanks for all the great comments, everyone!
