Strangest thrift item I’ve seen in a while

That's likely something a college student made in an art class. The date and name of the person is traditionally found on the underside of the ceramic.

There was no markings or initials i could see. There was a wooden thing possibly blocking the view. It has a price tag of 115$ at a thrift store.
