Hello all.

Many years ago I had a load of dirt delivered. They called it river bank soil or something like that. Fast forward a few years after the pile of dirt had been spread out and I was walking in the back yard and saw this guy right on top of the ground.

Any thoughts on possible age or any other information would be much appreciated.

It's 2 1/2 inches long and a hair over an inch wide at the widest point.

I am in North Carolina.

Without a base, it's real tough call, but most likely based on what is shown, it is a knife form.

Thanks for the responses. Yea I hate the very tip and the base are broke. I assumed it was an arrow head. Is that likely not the case?

I wish I knew where they got that load of dirt from. :laughing7:

I will chime in with another vote towards it having been a form of knife, being too large, and too old, to be an actual arrow point. The material looks to be typical for many parts of NC, I don't remember exactly what it is called, but it is something similar to "chalk" ?

Most of the large items out of your area are either Savannah Rivers or Guilfords. Nice finds

Depending on what area in NC you are in, the material could possibly be rhyolite or argalite (spelling may not be correct on either lol) I think it's either a blade or Guilford spear point and a great find, might want to dig in that dirt a little and as suggested get another load to sort of "fill in" some more areas

I would say a knife, much too large for an arrowhead. I think it's an unusual piece for the area?
