Threaded brass loop

This is a simple looking thing and I feel like this should be obvious what it was used for but I need input :D and the age estimate would be awesome.

I found it today at a site which spans from the mid/late 18th C to the late 19th C. It was located in the middle of what I believe to be the foundations for a small complex of barns/sheds.

About 4 1/2 inches long and has the remnants of black paint. The loop part is about 2.5" x 2".

Aha - thank you both! Makes sense.

Here I was thinking it was some sort of door pull ;D
