Found these two character busts which are signed. Does anyone know the artist or is it just work of a pottery course?

Not sure, but they are neat!
The condition of the clay around the signature area looks too rough to be anything but a “one off”. Mass produced pieces generally have a cleaner looking base. Nice find IMO. 👍🏼

Me either, nothing more than what pulled up in the AI search.

I don’t know why but those two together remind me of the old comedian pair from the 40’s, Lum and Abner.

I find old baseball photos in Sacramento sometimes of the teams that played in the area in the 20s- 60’s.
