Found these two character busts which are signed. Does anyone know the artist or is it just work of a pottery course?

Not sure, but they are neat!
The condition of the clay around the signature area looks too rough to be anything but a “one off”. Mass produced pieces generally have a cleaner looking base. Nice find IMO. 👍🏼

Thank you, i find them great. hopefully someone can read the signature.

WJ Pries

W.J. Pries pottery marks typically consist of the
incised or handwritten initials "WJP" or the full name "WJ Pries". As with many studio potters, the marks can vary in their exact appearance.

Key features of the marks:
  • Form: They are often incised (scratched into the clay before firing) or handwritten/painted onto the base of the piece.
  • Content: The primary identifiers are the initials "WJP" or the full name "WJ Pries".
  • Style: Being studio or art pottery, the marks are often less formal than mass-produced factory stamps and may vary slightly from piece to piece.
