Been exploring new sites around my office for lunch hunts. Plenty of community parks with vast wooded areas that were once farmsteads. Made 2 trips into this one site, first hike located the barn foundation, but 20 ticks found me. None got hold, but spent more time looking for them on my jeans than detecting, but found some cool relics. So went back hoping to find foundation of home, found it, but the ticks were even worse, 25 ticks on my clothes, hightailed it out and vowed never to hit these woods again, like a horror movie. Anyway, here is the handful I dug between ticks.

Then hit my favorite lunch hunt site, that after dozens of trips still is producing some nice finds. This was dug on the edge of the cellar hole (back of property, front of property is 1900's) that I had a avoided due to so much iron in the past.

Not sure about the stones or the MH next to Sterling.

Good luck out there!

love the way that ring is made, very cool. congrats

Very cool vintage ring. Don't quote me because I've never seen one like it, but the first thing I think of looking at the first pic is an attachment to a sword scabbard.

Now where are the tick pics :dontknow: I stop counting after two.

Awesome finds are you going in without any repellent of any sort??

Yep, spray, spray, spray. Lots of deer in the woods this year. That means,, lots of ticks.
Congratulations on the Sterling Ring.

What tick repellant are you using? If none, in the Eastern US - don’t leave your house!

Congratulations on the Sterling Ring.

Thx all! I have a bottle of cutter in the car, but it was for last summers mosquitos. What do y'all recommend for ticks?

Greta find on the ring! I use permithrin on my clothes. You can get it at a sporting goods store or Walmart. The brand is sawyers. You spray your clothes, let them dry. It’ll usually last 3- 4 washings. But if you have a cat, don’t get it. It can be deadly to them. Then I use cutter on my arms and neck. It must have a high deet amount to be effective .

Thx Steve! Sword scabbard attachment? Not sure, it may just be a heavy duty horse tack attachment. Maybe someone can ID. I hate ticks....

I'll post it on the Facebook ID Me forum and see what those experts think. I'm suffering from a mild case of poison ivy.

Lots of folks swear by any insect repellent with deet in it. I don't know. I am usually in a full wetsuit.

Nice ring. Congrats

Very nice hunt. Love the old iron and ring.I got covered in seed ticks the other day on the mountain. Lol it was clothes off after that.

That is a piece of horse tack, that I know for certain. I am having a senior moment, however, and can't come up with the proper name. I will get back to you tomorrow with a photo and the name of it. Right now, I am going to bed to rest my feeble brain and aching body.

You are correct. Steve in Pa just sent over some ID pics.

Part of a harness saddle.

I sprayed my pants socks and hike shoes with Sawyer last Friday. At least the mosquitos aren't back yet. Good you got out before it got worse. I never had 20 on me at once haha. Cool ring, MH the initials to my screen name.

Very nice finds, especially that ring. Any of you guys ever try neem oil to repel those little buggers? I'm just asking because I have some.

Nice ring. I love the patina on that strange brass thingy. I hope you can get in ID on that one. Ticks literally SUCK!
