TNet member Kurtstuben and I set off last week, on a metal detecting adventure to the North. We had the privilege of hunting with other TNet members: Bartek, Eastcoasthunter21, Triple555nickle and Treblehunter. I can not thank these gentlemen enough for their hospitality and good humor.
Scrappy supplied a spot but was unable to attend due to a sick family member. We all understood, but missed getting to see him.
Here’s a picture of one of our “safety meetings” at the local deli. You aren’t supposed to go out in the cold, without eating a good meal.
We hunted in several fields in South Jersey, with Treblehunter. If you look closely you can see “Dirty Kurty” and Treblehunter in the pics. I believe they were digging for grubs.
We hunted the woods in NY. It’s a beautiful place to hunt.
I found some relics along the way. The pocket watch winder was nice, as it’s only the second one I’ve found. Flat buttons, musket balls, harmonica reed, blah, blah, blah.
I believe this cast brass piece was once an ornate clock key or barrel tap key, dang shame it’s broken. It would have been a nice one. Just my luck.
This looks like a button face, but I’m not sure. It is really small and has a flower on it with gold gilt.
I managed to find a few coins, 3 coppers, looks like 2 Matrons and a British, but they are covered in crude. I have them soaking now. The “red” coin was a shield nickel, ID’d by Bartek. It had some stripes on it, but they flaked off. And a ‘64 Indian. One of the best I’ve ever found. You can see LIBERTY on her headdress.

I don’t know much about bottles, by it’s at least 100 years old. Embossed with TOTTENVILLE NY and THE HADKINS BOTTLING CO, with a monogram on the other side.
Charlie found it by detecting the Hutchinson stopper in the neck of the bottle, then digging out the complete bottle. Here is the stopper.
