It means LESS silver, not more. The gov't cut a fat hog by reducing the weight of silver coins in '53. They were able to turn the silver they saved into more coins. In 1852, the made just over a million half dimes. With the reduction, in 1853 they minted 15 million. 1853 coins with arrows are fairly common finds on this forum. Gary
