Toasted King George Copper and a Really Cool Pewter Spoon Handle!

Went back to a spot I've done at least 50 times over the years and dug up two good finds. The first was a really toasted KG copper. Totally slick with no detail. I'm guessing KG III half penny, but I'm not positive. Nothing is going to bring out any details on this coin! Oh well, at least I found a coin that's 242 years old (or older). Not bad.

The second find was about 15 feet away from the KG copper. It's pewter spoon handle with a really nice design on the front and the back. Tried to find the spoon bowl, but no luck. Still a cool relic, though.

Definitely pewter, based on the weight and the corrosion. But just to be sure, I scratched the broken end of the handle. As you can see, it's the silvery color of pewter.

Wow, what a lucky guy! I'd kill to run into any member of Skynyrd. I didn't get to see them play at all this year. Couldn't find anyone who wanted to drive 70 miles to Cohasset on a Tuesday night! It was either that or the Cape Cod Melody Tent, which is even farther away.

As I've said before, there's no one left to run with anymore. But at least I was in the front row to see them last year in Boston...

Yup, it's very frustrating. I can usually tell if it's a KG II or III, but not with this one. But it's better than finding a clad quarter any day! LOL!

Must be the lighting of the photo. Nice going on the copper and handle. I know how the searching for the missing part feels, did it on this last hunt. Handle and nothing to complete the utensil. Here is the similar dot edging design on the one I got.

Sorry about the photos. It does look kind of green in those pics, like brass. The flash on my camera is too harsh, so I took the pics with no flash. I'll try to take better pics if it stops raining today.

Can't imagine where all the spoon pieces go! I've found pewter handles with no bowls and pewter bowls with no handles, but never a complete one. Of course, none of the pieces I find ever match up! Very annoying.

Seen 'em twice, but grew up listening to them every minute. I live on the Cape and had to pass on the Melody tent this year..
