Today - An AMAZING box of nickels!!! ***Pictures***

Well, to start off today, I opened up 4 boxes of halves for a whopping ONE 1967 Kennedy. But I really wasn't in the mood to wrap 4000 halves, so I went to one of my dump banks a whole 100 yards from my house and picked up a box of nickels to go through to keep me busy. Boy, I sure am glad I did!

Spoils: (3 War Nickels) 1943 P, 1944 D, 1945 S.......(3 Barber/V-Nickels) 1905, 1906, 1912.......(2 Canadian Nickels) 1952 & 1954

All the coins were in pretty good shape, which was icing on the cake. Tell me what you think!

P.S. Where would a mint-mark be located on the V-Nickels? And are any of them "key dates"? Thanks!

only the 1912 V nics have a mint mark and the 1912S is the key date coin but unfortunately I don't see a mint mark on your coin in the pic. The mint mark, if the coin has one, is right below the dot to the left of CENTS on the reverse, near the 7 o'clock area.

I found my first silver nic ('43P) of the month earlier tonight from $20 in mixed rolls I bought from a bank earlier today.

Grates on that one! I honestly have to say that war nickels are my favorite type of silver. I just love the patina and age you can tell that the coin has. And the huge mint-mark on the back is like no other.

I like searching nickels too and I'm planning to increase my nickel volume starting this month. I'd like to see if I can average about $50-$100 search in nickels a day plus at least a couple of boxes of cents a week and however many boxes of halves I can buy each month. I often get $20 in nics from different banks when I'm checking for half dollars so I get a mix of mwr's & cwr's.

Btw, I just checked and the mintage for the 1912S is only 238,000 so finding one of those would have been a truly amazing score. But finding any V nickel in circulation these days is quite rare and finding 3 V's and 3 silver in one box is a really nice score. I haven't found any V nickels myself yet. Yet. So far my earliest date nickel find is a partial date 1918 buffalo.

Amen brother. I have never seen an "uncirculated" barber before so I kinda expect all barbers to be "faceless".

Keep me updates with a PM or two when you start doing more nickels. I'd love to hear what you find. I know nickels don't have the greatest pay-out with silver, but they sure are a fun coin to search. Seems like it's your best bet to find missed silver. Most people wouldn't know the different between a war nickel and any pre-1950 if it punched them in the face, so it goes un-noticed.
