These are yesterday's finds. Could not post yesterday due to internet outage. My apologies.
Nice little shield nickel. Little bit of damage in the date area. Have to believe it is 1868.
This has to be the find of the day. Delicate little sterling silver charm bracelet. One charm in the form of a Captain's Wheel. The other charm depicting a ship and titled S.S. Grand Rapids. Many ships out there that have been titled the Grand Rapids but I have to believe this depicts the S.S. City of Grand Rapids luxury cruise liner. Matches images of the S.S. City of Grand Rapids versus images of car ferries and cargo ships named S.S. Grand Rapids. And makes sense. You might want a souvenir from a cruise ship versus a car ferry or cargo ship. Perhaps shortened the name on the charm due to space constraints.
The S.S. City of Grand Rapids was one of the, if not the largest steam ship cruiser on the Great Lakes. It entered service in 1912 and was retired in 1951. She traveled between Chicago, IL and Holland, MI and Benton Harbor, MI. After being retired, she gained world fame in 1952 when she broke free of her moorings in St. Joseph harbor during a storm and blocked all in-bound and out-bound lake traffic at that harbor.
The charm bracelet was found in the city of Benton Harbor, which would further support this supposition.
