That's terrible! Someone posted today about the people working in the coin wrapping room are stealing the silver.
I'm starting to wonder if that is true. I do know for a fact, because it's happened to me on more than one occasion that someone is popping off enders and and carefully rolling them back down. It's happening where they can re-glue the boxes. Also getting too many opened boxes that are taped shut.
You have been getting too many bad boxes lately. Something is not right. You should be getting 100 keepers out of 16 boxes. The odds are that on a real bad day 16 boxes should give up at least 30 keepers.
I wouldn't give up,but I would give up on the arrangement you have now. Set up the same deal, with less boxes, from a different courier service, and pick up dump banks that don't charge you.
You may find that in a new area you may have more luck with less boxes, and pay no dumping fees.
Good luck in June

Re: today's 16 boxes

rich what you said kind of adds up and goes along with the other "find" today. almost every box had several rolls that were at least a couple of dollars short. almost everytime i skunk out like this several of the boxes are short. the rolls are tight and it don't look like any were removed but looking at as many rolls as i have i can tell right away when one is short. i told the vault teller at my supply bank one week after it happened and she said there was nothing that she could do about it once the box had been opened. i explained to her that it was no way i could tell if a roll was short unless i opened the box. she still did not offer any options that i could do and i did not want to push it because i could tell it was getting on her nerves. i was afraid she would not order anymore for me. so besides getting almost skunked out and the 24.00 fee i am going to have to pay tomorrow to dump along with replacing the shortages of 14.50 i am really going in the hole this week.

Re: today's 16 boxes

I'm sorry to hear about your bad boxes. You said the rolls were tight. In that case, i would think that the shortage was due to the rolling machine not working properly. I've gotten rolls that were short too, and even seen rolls that had an extra coin in them(although not as often). Also seen the occasional smaller denomination mixed in and counted as a half. Hope you make it up bigtime with your next boxes. In the meantime, do some dimes.

Re: today's 16 boxes

Is the silver supply depleted? Is there an endless supply of productive boxes? How often does new silver enter the flow? Are silver halves are being removed before machine rolled? As far as stealing enders and such, why is it so prevelent now, and not for the last couple years, or, has it been so all along.

Here is what I'm going to do. I used to be an armed guard at a ghetto grocery store. I'd make small talk with the Guardia drivers when they would drop off/pick up the cash. They all know me, and what I used to do. I'll go up there hang out with the mopes, and when Guardia shows up, I'll just say"Hey! What's up with that investigation with the theft of coins,in the counting room"? The guard is going to say that he is not aware of any investigation. Then I'll say,or words to this effect"oops, I guess I wasn't supposed to talk about it". Then walk away. This is going to start a rumor, among the guards, and make it's way to the counting room, which is going to make everyone nervous, whether a theft is going on or not. If a theft of coin is going on the rumor will stop it.
There are other ways of going about this,I'm just throwing out an idea.
It may sound outrageous, but I have a rare grasp of the conspirators mind :laughing7:.Outrageous plans do work.

Re: today's 16 boxes

Bummer SC - sound like Rich is right. How many miles would you have to drive to reach another supply district? Maybe you could increase your volume to 30 from out of town supplies and get them less frequently. Maybe every other week go for the long drive. You might need to get some heavy duty suspension installed on your vehicle.

Fist,
There is no question that enders are being pulled off. Top coin is missing, paper is handrolled back down, and silver is found in the other rolls. I'm finding re-glued boxes which are obvious.
At my ghetto bank I'm always getting boxes where the end flap was opened and taped up (at the bank?). Way too many of these.
I started noticing all of this in February.
The silver supply is not nearly depleted, but something stinks in Denmark.
The counting rooms have cameras. I know someone that can make a homemade device that will cause an electrical interference with the cameras, just enough to make them appear snowy. There is all sorts of ways to steal coin or pull a switch.

Re: today's 16 boxes

i am slap dab in the middle of the atlanta district. it would take a good day to get over to the next district in mississippi and back home. i would also have to find a dump bank over there. i don't really want to consider anything like that because it is hard enough to work full time, do the massive volume that i do and then dump close to home. maybe if i was retired i could do it. i have about 9 years before i can do that.
i don't know exactly why i find so many rolls short here lately. it never looks like they have been tampered with. they are always rapped tight. i guess with silver being so high the undesirables will take advantage if they have half the chance.

Re: today's 16 boxes

Now that you mention it guys, i've noticed lately that i'm getting an awful lot of boxes that were "dropped". And only half dollar boxes, never any of the other denominations that i pick up. What would it take for an armored car driver to look thru the peepholes in a brinks box, spot a silver edge, drop the box ,pull the silver and replace the roll. Yeah, i know, i'm paranoid.

possibly, I have only opened a box twice to see something looking at me... and i have gotten tons of "dropped" boxes. this week though teller said boxes are in bad shape but none were dropped. i just got the avg 1 coin per box tho,...

Re: today's 16 boxes

I edited my post slightly after you responded. I wouldn't rule it out. So many dropped boxes, sometimes i'll pick a box up and the endflap isn't even sealed and opens up and the rolls will spill out. Don't want to sabatage SC's thread though, just throwing a couple of possibilities out there.

In one of my buy banks where there are a couple of us ordering coins, the tellers let me into the vault where I check the holes for enders. It gives me a bit of an edge. So it is quite possible and certainly not paranoid to believe that the armoured car carriers are checking out the holes for silver.

Re: today's 16 boxes

Yeah you are definitely having a trying time facing the fees and no returns; can't wait to see your monthly totals, ours were poor especially in the %90's but di ok guess on the %40's would like to do better doing as many Boxes as we did.

Re: today's 16 boxes

hey obe i posted my monthly totals in the collective thread. mountainman don't worry about the thread post whatever you want.

Re: today's 16 boxes

I have noticed the Brinks boxes in my area are now taped on the both top sides and the usual bottom where you pull it open. This stops the DROP problem and makes it a lot harder for someone else but you to open the box.

The boxes are taped because someone already opened them to check for enders.

RH,

The Brinks boxes I get have always been taped with a strip of thick, brown paper packing type tape along where the flap opens. The boxes are the square, 25 rolls on top of 25 rolls, 5 by 5 in rows.

It has always been this way in the past 2 years I have been CRHing, and I still get boxes with an ender or two sometimes.

I can't speak for other jurisdictions.
