Today's finds, clay pipe and chewed lead.

Went back to the same spot I've been hunting and got this peice of lead with teeth marks (I think) in it. In the same hole I found the clay pipe. The lead looks like it was flat and someone rolled it in to a tube with their teeth.
Thanks for lookin'

Oh boy! That lead looks like chewed lead. Is this area anywhere near Civil War or Revolutionary War activity? The soldiers used to bite down on lead while being operated on by the doctors in the war. They also chewed on lead as a past time. I was told that lead tasted sweet. Awesome finds for sure.

To me it looks like a old lead joint to put together clay or cast iron drainage. I see that a lot being a plumber. but that is just my two cents it might be something else I am new to this treasure thing

Hey Sherm,
I found a whole bowl (colonial type) washed up on the beach a few years back. This one is from a spot I've found some Civil war stuff in.The whole area was occupied during much of the war.

Many soldiers chewed lead when water was scarce. In a siege situation the most critical element for the defenders was water. Chewing lead kept their mouth moist and prevented their tongues from swelling so bad. Gruesome, but true. Monty

No red clay around here. I found a Union eagle button a few feet from it last week.So my guess is the pipe came with the Federals or was shaped out of a brick.
